David asks…
TEENS: PLEASE HELP! BEST ANSWER 10 POINT! I I WILL PICK SOON! HELP FINDING SUMMER JOB!?
I don’t want to sound like a brat or anything. But I really want a summer job for next year. I am 15 and I will be 16 by next summer. I really wanna get to handle my own money, learn responsibility, etc. I just have a problem. I would NOT be a good babysitter, I’m not good with kids, and I’m not good at taking care of kids (plus I’ve had a fear of babysitting since I saw When A Stranger Calls)….I’m not good for outdoor labor, like lawn mowing/outdoor care. I’m not really fast enough to be a cashier. I hate to sound so lazy, but the only thing I’d be good at is secretary-like jobs. Please don’t ask me to try these other things, I have in other ways, and im SIMPLY not cut out for babysitting/lawn mowing/etc. Right now I volunteer at the library, and I have to do stuff that involves writing info, alphabetizing, picking out books….its very low key work. Calm, low key, low energy type job…I would work @ library, but you have to be 18 where I am. I know they don’t give out full scale secretary jobs to teens, but is there any titles/jobs like that, that I could find?? Thanks!
Mikey answers:
Well, you’re screwed.

John asks…
Does anyone know a good place to find summer job openings in south Orange County?
I have looked at the career center at my school and the choices are very limited (mostly internships, tedious jobs that no one wants like janitor, etc). Also, I have looked at summerjobopenings.com, indeed.com, etc and have found that most jobs either require you to have work experience (of which I have none) or to be 18 years or older (I’m 15).
I’d be willing to do most jobs, really, as long it pays alright, is in an air-conditioned area, is not tedious and extremely boring (extremely, I could deal with a semi-boring job), and is past 10 o’clock in the morning. I do not mind working late.
Any advice?
First answerer: It says no job results under my location..

Can anyone help me find a summer job for teens 14-15 years old?
Every summer job I’ve been looking at is for 16+ and since the economy is so bad right now my mom can’t give me allowance anymore. That means no money for me this summer. But I do need money this summer! I need a paying summer job that isn’t anywhere out of the area of kent/renton area (washington). Please help
Mikey answers:
My sister is a case manager in Ohio for a program (through the state) called Workforce Development Resource Center, WDRC and they specialize in helping develop young people for better jobs. Try programs called Workforce Investment Act (WIA) or maybe a local Department of Jobs and Family Services (DJFS). Best of luck to you!

Sandy asks…
Where can I find a summer job that will hire a 16 year old girl? Do you know anyone who is hiring?
Summer jobs, part time, full time, willing to work anytime.
Mikey answers:
Most fast food places have a high turn over, if they are not hiring now they will be, and they do not wait for someone to walk in they go to their application files. It is hard work but gives great work ethics and inspires the intelligent to git a education so they can git a good job.

Sandra asks…
How to find a summer job when you’re 16?
Hi,I’m a High School sophomore just finishing up classes and I’m looking for my first summer job, but I don’t know where to start, what should I do?
Mikey answers:
When You are 16 the job possibilities are almost limitless as long as the job is not considered hazardous.
Any job is what YOU make of it, do not worry about what anyone else thinks. Your jobs, as a teen, are for gaining experience, saving money for your education, buying that first car, spending cash for your days off, new clothes for school….. Etcetera.
If you want to work there are many jobs available, it is a matter of how mature you are and how badly you want your own money.
Different companies have different policies about hiring minors so just apply the worse thing that can happen is they say no.
Plan your job hunting for times of the day you will have an opportunity to speak with a manger. Be prepared, bring pen and clipboard so if they prefer you fill it out at the location you can do so neatly. Bring extra copies of your list of references, since you don’t have much work experience great personal references are very important.
When you go dress neat, clean, and appropriately for the business, be polite and ask for an application and the appropriate time to bring it back. For references talk to teachers, clergy, coaches, anyone you have done casual labor for, friends parents etcetera be sure to ask if you can use them as a reference and let them know to expect calls from prospective employers.
For more info about working go to “youthrules” there are links for teens, employers, parents and educators for each state.

How do I find a summer Job?
I tried to find a summer job last may but no one would hire me. So now I have debt and in studying a stupid program that is worthless.
Other kids are in good programs and I tried to switch but they told me that I’m stupid and had to stay where I am.
Kids are already graduating and happy while I an sad and jealous.
What can I do to change my life around?
My mother told me to study in this program.
Mikey answers:
Try looking for a summer job in the local hamburger joints. You will not earn as much as you wish you would, but you will still be receiving a salary that can help you as far as paying off your debt that you currently have.
In regards to the program that you are in, just try to keep an open mind as far as it is concerned and study hard so that you will be able to pass into the next program that is available.

Mikey answers:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a fleet of ships on all coasts of the United States. They sail to other countries, states, and to many islands like Hawaii. It is by far the best summer job I have ever had. The work is easy, the pay in unbelievable, and you get to sail to some amazing places over the course of two or three months. They have a program called STEP, which stands for Student Temporary Employment Program. You can apply online on the NOAA website. You should seriously check it out. Best summers of my life.

Linda asks…
Good job to get during the summer while in pharmacy school as an ungrad? (live in dif state fr school)?
I am currently a first year student at a 6 year pharmacy program in Massachusetts, but I live in Indiana. Because I live on a school campus, I have to go home during breaks, especially summer.
I found out the summer before my first year of college, that it was hard to find a summer job as a pharmacy intern/tech at pharmacies near my town because I was only home in Indiana for a short while before I headed back to school.
What is a good job to get during the summer while in pharmacy school as an undergrad? (live in different state from school)
Mikey answers:
Did you try Walgreen’s and CVS? Also, Eli Lilly in Indianapolis offers some student internships.

Jenny asks…
How can get I some kind of summer job in Europe?
I am a 24 yr. old female from the states trying to find some kind of summer job in Europe. I checked a whole bunch of websites and most of them are either for high school students, recent college graduates, or they ask for huge fees for find you a placement. It seems pretty much impossible because of the work visa restrictions the US has for other countries, making it difficult for Americans to work abroad. Can anyone recommend a website, a contact or something that could be helpful in finding summer employment for non EU citizens, but that doesn’t require fees, or being a high school/college student?
P.S. And please don’t recommend a cruise ship, dave’s esl cafe, BUNAC, or teachingabroad. I ‘ve already checked those areas and they didn’t really help.
Mikey answers:
There is no working holiday exchange for Americans, since the US won’t allow it for visitors to the US. Some countries in the EU have sponsored work visas only, others have a highly-skilled worker scheme based on a point system for various qualities.
The highly-skilled worker schemes generally require a university degree (some countries like the UK require at least a Master’s) and/or extensive work experience in a skilled area. Points are given for other attributes like age and prior income, and your career needs to have a lack of local workers in that field.
Sponsored work visas mean that you’ll need to find a job first, then apply for a permit. Most countries require that this is done from the US, although Germany allows Americans to stay a short while to look for work, then apply within the country. Within the EU, a company has to show that they advertised the job locally and there were no suitable applicants. In other words, it usually requires higher education and specialised skills in a needed field (qualified teaching.. Not ESL, healthcare, engineering, science). It’s generally not worth the hassle to a company to hire outside the EU, and it’s very unlikely you could find short-term work even if you meet the needed qualifications.
The easiest way is usually to transfer to an international branch of a US company that already employs you. Again, this is unlikely for summer work. Paying a fee to a placement company most likely wouldn’t work anyway, since you still have to meet these other requirements.
Student visas are the easiest way for Americans to live in Europe, thus the university programs. Most study permits allow at least part-time work (without the above requirements) which means you can seek jobs like a local.
The UK provides plenty of English-speakers for ESL, au pair and similar work. Thus, most companies that deal in this will accept EU-only. It’s actually not legal to hire non-EU for this type of work in some countries.
The other thing you have to consider is language. If English is your only fluent language, you’ll be limited to UK/Ireland (which has the strict hiring schemes I mentioned above). Without proficiency in the local language, it’s very difficult to find a job, even if you live here. The economy is bad in most countries right now, and unemployment is high. I don’t mean to sound so pessimistic about your chances, but the truth is that it is very unlikely to find a summer placement in Europe. If you have the skills and education, long-term employment is a possibility, but with all the restrictions it doesn’t make sense to hire an American without a lengthy job commitment.

James asks…
Will babysitting in college hurt my job chances upon graduating?
I just finished my sophomore year of college and am having no luck finding a job over the summer.
I do have a family that wants me to babysit part time over the summer. I was also thinking of applying at local babysitting agency type thing, so other families can contact me, too.
I will be doing an internship next summer in the area of my major, which is not related to children. I’m wondering if after I graduate, will employers consider babysitting a real job? If I mostly babysit, will that hurt my job experience when looking for a job after college?
I have worked at “real” jobs, like The Gap, but it was seasonal.
Mikey answers:
It would be a very unusual employment situation in which babysitting would be held against you.

Mandy asks…
I need to find a summer job/ideas? See details.?
I am a college junior looking for a summer job.I’m a math education major….
… but not sure i want a job THIS summer in that field.
I want these things in a job:
1. to work outside
2. I need 2 weeks off for wedding/family things (need a job that will give me that time off)
3. i cant swim = no lifeguard.
4. BUT i’m very athletic.
5. Love outdoors : hate retail and food services.
Mikey answers:
Try getting a job at a museum or amusement park.
I work at a museum, and we hire staff for summer part-time work every year. Mostly, it’s for admissions and gift shop sales, but you never know, a local museum by you might need help with their horticulture department too.
Same with amusement parks. They are usually only open during the spring/summer/fall seasons and are always in need of staffing for various jobs from admissions sales, to horticulture.
Or you can try a local golf club, garden center, nursery, farmer’s markets.
As for a job that will allow you specific time off, you’d have to tell that to your employer during the interview. That way, they’ll know ahead of time what you want off. Be for warned though, it may cause some employers to not want to hire you because of that.
Also, check your local newspaper for the job career section. Those always have listings for seasonal jobs.

Steven asks…
How do I find a summer job in computer programming?
I am looking around Portland, Oregon for a summer job in the general area of computer programming. The problem is, I’m not quite sure which jobs I would be able to get and where to find them.
I am a college student (computer science major) going into my junior year. I’ve done some web design, but my only serious production level project was a set of relatively simple set of PHP scripts combined with MySQL to manage entries in a county wide contest in Clackamas County. However, I know several languages, though I don’t have complete mastery of them. I good knowledge of the mechanics of HTML/CSS, but I’m not great when it comes to layouts.
Languages:
Thorough: (X)HTML, CSS
Solid working knowledge: Python, PHP, generic XML
Basic knowledge: C++, Java, JavaScript, bash, SQL
This isn’t a classified ad, I’m just looking for advice as to what’s out there and how to get it.
Mikey answers:
Well, since I live no where near Portland the best suggestions I can make are:
1) Make profiles on websites such as CareerBuilder, Monster, and make a LinkedIn profile.
2) Web programming (as well as most programming) is needed everywhere… I got a full time job my freshman year just buy showing a gaming website I made for my cousin. Now I make professional aviation websites and I’m only 18… Like you, I know PHP with MySQL as well as a slew of other programming languages. I suggest continue practicing website development and just go around local places (barber shop, etc.) and build them basic websites for very cheap at first. Move yourself up from there.
I use IXWebhosting for most of my web development projects, cheap and great quality.

Charles asks…
I’m planning to getaway , what do i need?
In my situation , i should run away just to give my self some time alone. Obviously i’m to young to run away and i probably won’t even have enough money to run away some place so that’s why i’m going to wait like a year or two. I just need a plan. Money , of course , transportation , food , etc…
I know i need to get a job , save up about 600 dollars. I could save even more money to buy a car but Thad take forever. I’m trying to be rebellious before i turn 18. i’ll probably just take a friend who has their license or whatever. I live in Maryland and all i need is a place to run away too. Florida? nah, i go their every summer. New York , just went . same with ocean city and Myrtle beach. I guess i can’t go anywhere to extreme… so help me find a place along the east coast that’s perfect to go to?
Ps : I would tell at least my older sister that i’m running away.
Mikey answers:
Well i have the same problem but what you need is some canned food, water, clothes, money, maybe a weapon like brass knuckles or a knife cuz you never know what is going to happen , sleeping bag, fake id,and your best friend (if you trust him). This is what i need for when i go to mexico or vegas.

James asks…
Fluent speakers–can someone translate these into Spanish for me please?
I have to have a conversation in front of the Spanish class today, and I want a base to start out my topics so I don’t freeze up. Would someone pleaseplease translate these for me so I have an idea of how to start my oral? I’m terrified of public speaking. Thank you so much!!
1. The economy is the worst I’ve ever seen. I know it was worse during the Great Depression, but I never imagined it could get this bad. I have considered moving to a big city to find a job because this job pays so little and I’m having trouble finding a new one. All of my credit card bills are past due, and I can’t seem to pay off my debts. I had to take out a loan against my house in order to pay for my son’s college tuition. I don’t know how I will ever pay it back with my current salary. If I had known before how bad the economy would get, I would have made investments and figured out how to save more money. Now, it seems hopeless.
2. The best spring vacation is traveling to New York City. My mother and I go every year to see the newest fashions and shop for summer clothes. New York is beautiful in the spring because there are so many people in the parks and on the streets enjoying the weather. The street vendors are out selling hot dogs, and there are festivals in the parks. My favorite part about going on vacation in New York is the musicals. This year, my mother lost her job, so we can’t afford to see as many shows at the theater. If I had known earlier, I would have started saving. Anyway, we’ll have lots of fun this year.
3. Technology is developing so quickly. Every day, I’m amazed by the new advances. I can only imagine what it will be like in the future. The computers are already so advanced, but I think that soon all computers will have screens you can touch instead of keyboards. Also, I’m sure that new technology will emerge soon that makes even laptops much more portable. This will be great especially for me because I’m a reporter, and I take my laptop everywhere. If the computer is very tiny and light, it won’t put so much strain on my back. I also think that cars will stop running on gasoline soon. This will greatly reduce carbon emissions and save the planet. If people had known a long time ago what damage cars do to the earth, they would have started developing technology much sooner, I think. I love new technological developments because as a reporter, my life is all about efficiency.
I know it’s kind of heavy, but if you’re fluent it should only take a minute–I would be SO!! thankful. Please? Someone?
Mikey answers:

Richard asks…
What should I say to my Rich Brother who calls me lazy because I can’t keep a full time job?
Because I have a problem with depression.
I’m taking whatever medicine my psychiatrist prescribes.
But it only helps solve 40% of the depression problem.
My rich brother became rich because he married a girl from a rich family who works in real estate.
His wife’s family owns buildings (I don’t know how many) in the New York City area.
My ???ambitious??? brother comes into work at 11:30 in the morning and usually leaves early at around 2:30 pm when he has to go to the bank to deposit the money that came in that day from people who rent space or apartments in buildings his wife’s family owns or manages.
And then he goes home for the rest of the day.
During the summer he leaves for his summer vacation home in Upstate New York Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm
And comes back at 1:00 pm the following Monday afternoon
And for the last 2 weeks of August he goes on a fancy Vacation trip somewhere
In December Christmas time he goes for another 2 week fancy vacation.
I once asked him if he would ever help me financially or help me find a good job and he said No.
My brother doesn’t seem to have the energy to help me. But he has enough energy to criticize me for being depressed.
Mikey answers:
Your brother is not worth wasting your time on-dont rely on him to help you, help yourself. Get a job yourself. Go to a support group/therapist, learn coping mechanisms to deal with the depression. Get a hobby, keep busy.

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job Online

Steven asks…
Any legit online jobs?
Any real online jobs? Im a college student and having a really hard time finding a job for the summer and I was thinking that there might be an online job. Any ideas?
Mikey answers:
There are no legitimate online jobs. Even big operations like Harris Polling would be unlikely to pay you more than $5. All the rest just want your personal and credit card information. Once they have that, they don’t need you any more. Avoid them all.
Paint the front of your neighbor’s house for $250 if she pays for paint and brushes.

Sharon asks…
Summer jobs for Scottish Student?
A friend of mine suggested we get a summer job in Jersey. I was intrigued – however the job asked for “seasonal periods” which makes me think that they’ll be after more than just the summer period, which I can’t do.
I looked around some more, online, and found a site offering a job picking strawberries in Denmark. I really liked this idea, however I wasn’t sure if the site was reliable and didn’t know how to look further into it.
Does anyone know where I can get advice on getting an interesting job for the summer? All else I could find were jobs in camps – I’m terrible with children, so they’ll not do.
Is there anyone I can talk to in person about this sort of thing? WIll the careers service at my university have any information on this, or is it entirely my problem?
If anyone could recommend any websites or organisations about summer jobs, that would be awesome.
I’m really looking to spend my summer in an interesting way, experiencing new things – being paid for it would be a bonus, but not essential.
P.S: My university offered to send students to developing countries to help people suffering from AIDS, build houses and to assist teaching children. I was interested in it, but my mother threw a fit at the idea of me going to Senegal – so I’ll save that idea for later. Any other suggestions, in different places, would be ideal.
Mikey answers:
Bar tend, wait tables, customer service agent, target , walmart….choices, choices…….
While some of them might not sound like jobs to die for, you will gain a lot of experience, knowledge and people skills which would be of great help once you graduate.

Sandy asks…
I’m having no luck finding a job what else should I try?
I’m 18 have never worked before I have apply at temp services, online, in person about 10 total since the beginning of the summer and I still have not landed a anything. Where should apply to next, I’m not trying to make a career just want extra spending money and I do have a high school diploma you would think that would count for something but it doesn’t really seem to.

summer job troubles please help?
This theme park claims to hire at 15 years old. I visited their website to view the job openings. They had a cash register job open. I applied, and someone called back, and said that for that position, they are looking for someone who was 16. I was very mad. Can they discriminate against age like that? Is that legal? It has been a month since I applied for that position, and it is still listed as an opening. I was considering sending them an email expressing my feelings, but I can not find their email address. Should I send them a letter by mail? Or should I fill out one of those online job applications again expressing my concern I that? Please tell me what I should do! REAL ANSWERS ONLY!!!!!!!!!!
Mikey answers:
Yes they can decriminate by age if they feel that a 16 year old would be more responsable for a register job. If you don’t think you’ll feel better until you tell them how you feel than you should write to them, if you really want to sound mature I wouldn’t suggest expressing outrage in a letter but you could tell them that it was very frusterating to you that they didn’t make it clearer which ages they would consider for different possitions. If you word your letter well you might even convince someone that your as mature as any 16 year old and they might even change their mind about considering you for the possition. If not let it go, it’s their loss, you can go on to bigger and better things but they will never know the pleasure of being your employers.

Can someone help me find a lifeguarding job?
I’ve been searching everywhere for a lifeguarding job, but every job seems to be taken. I need a job in Connecticut specifically towards the center around New Britain. Would anyone be able to help me find one online and post a link or something? Also, if there are any aquatic instructor/swim instructor jobs available in the area, those would work too. I would like to start immediatly, but if it starts in the summer thats okay too. Please and Thank You!

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job In Spain

Ken asks…
I am thinking about moving abroad to Spain i would appreciate some feedback?
Howdy people. How are we? Well let me begin, i have been thinking for sometime and i have come to the idea of finally getting around to moving abroad. I have recently got a divorce and believe it is now time to follow my dreams and finally leave my homeland.
I have been working for the past 20 years of my life in an IT role. To be quite honest, one is rather bored of this way of living. I fancy a fresh start: new jobs role, new routine, new indulgence in communication. I have done ALOT of research, I am aware that Spain as a high unemplopyment. 9 million of there 45 million are unemployed: but we have to remember that alot of spanish locals dont want to work, have to work, work in my field etc etc. .
I have read some questions and answers already on here which i find to be rather submissive! I have the charisma, drive, enthusiam to really make a go of things. “he who dares, wins”. Life is about taking risks. I have a little nest EGG that will see me good for renting a property and living for up to about 6 months.
There are ALOT of jobs going to be availble not only for the summer months as its holiday season but for new expanding business in the Gilbraltar region.
I was wondering if anybody had any PERSONAL EXPERIENCES in moving to spain, or moving to another country or living in another country etc etc: I am not interested in hearing answers from jealous, submissive, negative individuals.
I really would like some real genuine comments. If not one can offer me this then that is fine. Please do not just answer for the points.
Thanks

Can you correct this piece of letter, please?
I know it’s long but I really need your help.
‘I am sorry you can’t find a good job, or at least a job that makes you feel satisfied but please do not seclude yourself! There will always be ups and downs in your life but if you’re lucky enough to share them with someone you love and who genuinely loves you, you don’t have any reason to feel so bad. Eric is really a good guy and his proving his love to you. When a couple is connected by a strong love the way you two are you don’t necessarily need to be husband and wife to be a family because you already are! You and Eric are family, he’s helping you because you’re the one who is in trouble now and you’ll be there for him if he might need your help.
Now that I know what you have been going through, I feel bad you spent money on a gift that quite probably got lost. My beautician has a brother who lives in Spain and when she sends something to him through the post it takes at least 20 days to get there. Considering that the U.S. and Italy are much more distant Countries she says that we should not worry because I’ll probably get it soon. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed.
The way we’re connected is very funny. Remember when I talked to you about Antonio’s troubles a couple of summers ago? We dindn’t live together back then and needed the money to go out . Of course, he quit his job and since he has not a rich family (unfortunately), when his parents had not money to give him, we’d use mine, and back then I did not have a job either. There were times I would open my purse and literally didn’t find anything. He was very bad and what really counted to me was his health. So, I perfectly understand Eric, and I believe him when he says he doesn’t mind giving you money. What really matters to him is for you to be all right!
Just change your point of view because otherwise tension can gradually build… this is sort of happening between me and Antonio. Just a few days ago, Antonio’s sister phoned him to let him know that someone went their home offering him a job. He took the job offer down because he knows that this person is incline not to pay the people working for him. Since he was having problems with the line, her sister was insisting on phoning him but he wouldn’t answer. I snapped because I couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t answer his sister’s phone calls. We had a bad fight! Everything is okay now but that’s what all the stress we’re going through brings about.
Besides, he’s currently not working. He spent the days he took off looking after his brother and now that he’s doing fine he rightly asked for more days off to relax.’
Thank you in advance

Spanish coursework – Work and Future Ambitions. Someone please help!!!?
Please can someone good at spanish translate this for me please. Its not cheating, as i only just need to memorise it so i can rewrite it.
Dear Sir
My exchange partner tells me that you work in a global company in Spain and i am very interested in coming to do some work for you.
I am very friendly and get on well with colleagues and friends, people always find me very hardworking and a very responsible person. This is why i think i would be suitable for the role.
At school i like to study languages, and i enjoy learning spanish very much, because i find it so interesting, and i know that it’s a very useful language.
Last year i did work experience in a Nursery, i didn’t enjoy it that much, because i found it very boring. I didn’t enjoy looking after the older children as much as i enjoyed looking after the younger children, because the younger children were more welcoming. My boss was very nice, and i did enjoy working with her, because she always made sure i was okay, and that i had something fun to do.
I currently have a part time job working in a cafe, i am really enjoying working there because i have met so many interesting people, and i have made new friends who also work in the cafe. Although i don’t think i will be able to keep the job for much longer as i will have to concentrate on my exams that are coming up in the summer.
After school, i would like to take a gap year, so i could travel around the world, and become a more cultured person. I would also like to have the time to take up a new hobby and learn something different and useful.
In the future i would like to go into the Film industry, because i love films, and i would really enjoy getting involved, with loads of other people with the same interest. It would be amazing to work with famous actors and directors, and i would love to one day direct or produce my own film.
With the money i would earn, i would love to buy a flat in New York, because i have always wanted to live in America. Although i would miss my family very much. I would like to save up some money, so i could buy my parents a new kitchen, because they are always complaining about their kitchen at home. Although i would love to buy a dog, because i have always wanted a dog, but my dad has never liked the idea of having one, even though he used to have dogs as pets when he was younger.
I hope you allow me to come work with you in Spain.
Thank you very much, yours sincerely.
Mikey answers:
Hello,
Seria fascinante trabajar con actores y directores famosos, me encantaría poder algún día dirigir o producir my propio filme.
Muchas gracias, sinceramente.

Maria asks…
Can someone please look at the placements and tell me why this person is like this?
My best mate has been going through a tough time for about a year now. Her first boyfriend cheated on her, then the second one told her he didnt love her anymore, she got tattoos done but didnt tell her parents, they found out and went mental. She finally hit rock bottom in the summer and was diagnosed with anorexia and put on antidepressants. She isn’t being treated for anorexia anymore but she still takes the pills. i thought about it the other day, and all the problems she mostly has, are her own doing and her own fault. I’m trying to get her to come over to spain (where i live but im english) for either xmas or new years, but shes worried about asking her boss cos she has a good job going atm, but i told her you don’t get asked to work both so just ask for a week off, you’re entitled to a holiday. She’s being very dramatic, saying she’s fed up with life and that she’s gonna quit college.
she says she wants to get away needs a break etc, and the only thing i can do to help is push her into pulling her thumb out her ass and book a flight over here.
if anyone can see the placements or transits that make her like this can you point them out please, or if anyone can read natal charts can you see anything for her?
her chart: http://astro.cafeastrology.com/cgi-bin/astro/natal?member=&recalc=&name=&sex=t&d1day=15&d1month=8&d1year=1992&d1hour=8&d1min=26&citylist=London%2C+United+Kingdom&lang=en

Hm that’s strange … She has the same Sun placement as me (even the same degrees – Leo Sun 22.43), but her behaviour doesn’t sound familiar to me.
I would say her Pisces moon has something to do with it. My closest friend who has Sun in Pisces tend to fall in the same types of depressions u r describing (even worst sometimes). Once she took a whole bunch of pills because of that guy, who broke off with her, even though they were together only for 2 months.
Her Sun in Leo is also not helping in this situation. Leo is a strong placement that despise the weakest – so basically right now one part of her needs to be weak and the other part is hating it.
Said in short – She’s SELF-DESTRUCTIVE right now.
I know u want to help, but Leos don’t deal with their problems by running away, or just going for a party or vacation. We need to find a new goal, new purpose that will make us hope, strive, strike, try, etc. Etc.
It might be connected with work, lifestyle.
Personally when I feel down I start paying regular visits to the GYM. It gets better immediately after my first training.
Try to engage her in some new activity, give her new ideas and stuff like that, but don’t push her to travel or move too much … She needs to fight all of this and the only way to do it is to face it, not run away from it.

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job In New York

Ruth asks…
ideas for travelling south this summer?
Im livin in New York and i want to travel this summer. I plan on going to Ohio in april or may for a about 2 months then i want to keep heading further and further south. I just need help on where to go and how to find jobs and places to live. Id prefer the kinds of jobs where you live and work in the same place or maybe cheap places to stay like hostels. Any ideas?
Mikey answers:
Go from Ohio into West Virginia. Check out Hawks Nest State Park and the New River Gorge Bridge. Good cheap motels in the area too.

Thomas asks…
Should this bug me as much as it does?
I got a quartet job for the summer that pays pretty decent. I got the job when I played for an event (I’m a musician). I lost the guy’s business card and tried to look him up everywhere, finally finding him on facebook and explaining I was his employee.
He remembered me, and said next time I was in town (I’m only in New York in the summers) I should call him (he gave me his number) and said he would “show me a good time.”
I am not planning on joining his quartet because this bothered me. Am I overreacting?
Mikey answers:
I suppose that if his tone were inappropriate then it would be a legitimate reason to worry, but that is totally subjective.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that he was being creepy, he was probably just trying to be friendly.

Need help finding a job in Utica New York!!?
So I need a job this summer, not one that consist of me washing dishes. I’m an artist, an actor, and my major is Digital Media and Animation in college. I was thinking maybe a job in Graphic Design, but I can’t seem to find jobs I don’t know why. Can some one help me out?

I want to find a nice summer job that maybe consists of singing?
I recently was a part of my school talent show and I loved the feeling of being on stage! I got this great idea that maybe that this summer that i can enroll in a summer job! I’m 16 years old and I live in New York so maybe something in the city? and my mom works as a nurse in the city so it would be easier. That is why i am asking any cafes or restaurants that maybe can hire? Please Let Me Know! Thank You!
Mikey answers:
Have you considered busking? You probably need to look into whether or not you need a license, I’m not sure how it works in America but in Australia you need one. If you’re good, in an area where people pass by regularly, you should be able to earn $20-$50 an hour.

Sandra asks…
What can I do for my 9th grade summer that will positively affect my college application?
I am currently in 9th grade, summer is coming up and I want to know what I could do to add positive things on my college application. I live in New York. But you would be surprised at how hard it is to find volunteer work or a job. So anything really, if you can send me a link, that would be great.
Mikey answers:
Get a job. Volunteering is great, but if you can get a job outside of school-related activities, it shows you are interested in a variety of things and colleges like that. It shows responsibility and that you are taking the initiative at a young age.
If you aren’t already, you should be doing some type of school activity or sport during the summer.

To answer your actual question… Eh, what the heck, I’ll list all of their stats.
League: 37, 49, 57
FA Cup: 2, 0, 5
League Cup: 3, 1, 2
Community Shield: 0, 0, 1
Total: 42, 50, 65
The first number’s City wins, the second’s draws, and the third’s United wins.
EDIT – Am I the only Liverpool fan who she’s had a row with, besides Audi….? Seems like most of her haters are United fans.

Jenny asks…
My mom’s angry because I tossed all of the stuff she’s hoarded for me. How to make amends?
My mom is a bit of a hoarder, but only in regards to things she associates with me. She’s kept practically every drawing and coloring book I’ve done since I was a toddler. Mom also had all of my old clothes, toys, bicycles, report cards, posters, etc. I mean she literally hasn’t tossed anything that meant anything to me growing up. All of this stuff amounted to a collection that consumed her entire basement. Then out of the blue she gave it all to me.
I know to mom all of this had a great deal of sentimental value. These things reminded her of me, and she probably expected me to cherish them too. The thing is that when I looked at some crappy drawing I did when I was four all I saw was junk. I didn’t want to fill my house with this stuff. I told mom a dozen times to keep it, but she kept bring it over to me anyway. So I tossed most of it. Anything that my own children couldn’t use, or that wasn’t valuable, I threw into the trash.
Now mom’s furious. She couldn’t stop crying for a week, and has broken off contact with me. I’ve heard from other family members that she thinks that I stabbed her in the back. Somehow in her mind she really thought I wanted this stuff. I’ve tried to talk with her. I’ve tried to remind her that I never once asked for any of it, and that I begged her not to give it to me. Sadly mom lives in her own little world.
I don’t like being separated from mom like this. She’s my best friend, and I feel bad that I’ve hurt her like this. But I made my position clear from the beginning, and gave her every opportunity to save this stuff if it meant that much to her. How can I get through to this woman to make her see that she’s valuing the memory of me over the actual me?
Mikey answers:
Hoarding is a serious mental disease, which any of us who watch reality TV these days knows full well. Honestly I’m just shocked that she so easily handed all of this stuff over. Most hoarders value their possessions over everything else, including their families. As you said the memory of the person is more precious than the person themselves.
In any case I suggest you work with your mother to develop a healthier way of keeping her memories of you in check. Build up a really nice photo album. Show your mom that these memories mean something to you too, but that you cherish them differently. Be sure to include current photos of your family to show her that she doesn’t need to live in the past, because new memories are made every single day.

Mary asks…
My wife hates my ex. Any advice?
I have been divorced from my ex for a little over 5 years now. I married my current wife a year and a half ago and love her more than anything in the world. She is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time and I always make sure she knows this. Thing is, my ex and I have a 7 year old daughter together and my wife is extremely distrustful of my ex.
My ex and I are on good terms with each other since we realized we are still good friends at heart (we’ve known each other almost our entire lives) but we are absolutely terrible in a relationship. We understand that just cause she makes me want to wring her neck 99% of the time doesn’t make me any less of a parent to our child and that’s the way our relationship has been for 5 years. Good friends who care more about the well being of our child more than anything else.
When my current wife and I started dating and subsequently married, I made it very clear that my daughter is important to me and that I believe strongly in showing a unified front in her parents, divorced or not. She has always said she was ok with this. But as time goes on, my wife takes every opportunity she gets to take potshots at my ex for no reason. She calls her names and all sorts of unnecessary things.
We are now expecting a child soon and when she asked who could babysit while we are at work, I said my ex would be a great candidate. She could use the money, she is free during the day, is absolutely wonderful with children, and most importantly, it makes a great opportunity for the baby to bond with his big sister. My wife flew off the handle when I suggested this. You would think I had just kicked her dog across the room. She came up with every excuse in the world why my ex could never ever watch the baby. She even said “Your ex has too many pets!” (We have pets too…..)
I’m not sure where all this hatred is coming from when she knew of my ex and how we worked when we got married. I’ve never kept anything a secret. She knows that I have no feelings towards my ex other than respect for the mother of my child and an old childhood friend.
I overheard my wife talking to her cousin and family and they fill her head with the worst crap I have ever heard. They my ex is a b**** (they’ve never met her) and that she will hurt our baby and that she harbors resentment towards her. I don’t know where they get off feeding her ideas like this which are untrue and unsubstantiated.
My wife and I have started getting into arguments over this and she believes I should never defend my ex even though she is the mother of my child, an old old friend, and still a respected friend. Am I supposed to completely cut off more than 18 years of my past because my wife can’t control her jealousy?
I don’t know how to handle these arguments anymore without being a liar, which I refuse to do.I’m not going to turn my back on my past and more importantly, my daughter who needs her father in her life, no matter what the circumstances may be. To agree with my wife in these arguments would be doing just that and would make me dishonest and I just can’t do that.
Any advice?
Mikey answers:
I gotta say BJB has some good advice. I totally agree with that advice. I understand it may be frustrating and difficult but if you want to stay with your wife, you have to lay down the law with her.
I am almost embarrassed to say that I have girlfriends on both ends of this situation. I’ve tried to get the real truth behind the resentment for the former girlfriend or wife and it all boils down to jealously. Your wife must see some sort of interaction that you have with your Ex that she wishes you had with her.
I read you said you love her and that she is the love of your life…do you like her? Do you show her that you two can be friends or friendly in the same manner as you are with your Ex? I think wives forget that marriage and living with someone is different than interacting with someone on an occasional basis. It’s very immature and childish.
What she should realize is that she has you and you aren’t going anywhere. Also, tell her to STOP talking to all those naysayers. Polluting her mind will absolutely destroy your relationship and may even cause divorce, as thinking negatively is the beginning to all problems.
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to change the actions or thinking of others but you can describe how it makes you feel, as women are more receptive to sentiments than logic. Perhaps her listening to how you feel about her actions and how it is destroying your relationship, might place some perspective and force some maturity out of her. I understand you’ve talked to her but put your words into describing feelings, plus let’s not forget you’re doing with an emotional being right now because of her pregnancy so much may not make sense right now.
I also would suggest talking to your Ex and seeing if you two can come up with a plan to help diffuse your situation at home, at least until all the pregnancy and post-delivery emotions are gone. Your ex-wife has had experience with pregnancy emotions and can probably provide insight as well.
GOOD LUCK!

Thomas asks…
How do I make guy friends?
I don’t have that many close guy friends but I would like them. I find girls annoying and trivial sometimes, and guys are much more laidback and cool. I’m not a walking Joseph Heller, but I am fairly funny, or at least, I think so. Well, I guess I’m not that funny. And I don’t get very many opportunities to reveal my sense of humour. Most of it comes when I’m in a conversation with someone and I think of something interesting. How am I going to get into a conversation in the first place? Also, how do you go from a cool conversation into friends? I occasionally make a funny comment that one of the guys laughs at, but that’s like once every…i don’t know, three months? it’s rare, and it never turns into a convo. The rare, rare times that I start a convo with a guy, I’m so paralyzed on the inside; you can’t really tell, except for the fact that I make my voice a little clearer and lower…and that I get so nervous that I make up an excuse to leave! (That’s not a giveaway at all, is it? [insert virtual eye-roll here]) Plus, there’s LOTS of ice. You can’t really start a conversation with someone who thinks of you as a freaky girl, especially if they’re just hanging out with friends. What, do you go up to them and say, “Hi, let’s be friends.” In my school, the guys kind of mainly talk only to other guys. They only try to make friends with girls if they’re popular and well…that’s definitely not me. I’m thinking about this because others seem to have guy friends that they talk to and invite over and the guys don’t act like acquaintances, they act like actual friends. I want that! Argh. Can someone help me?

Your Questions About Make The Most Of Every Opportunity

Thomas asks…
Do ferrets make good pets?
I know it’s a simple question, but I’m thinking about the future, and what kind of pet I might want once I’m living on my own. I’m fond of ferrets and was wondering if they make good pets.
The most important things are:
Are they generally well-mannered? As in, no biting or running out of the house/cage at every opportunity.
Do they, like mice, urinate constantly? (I suppose it would be more of a matter of what animal family they’re part of).
And lastly, do they shed hair?
Thanks for any input.
Mikey answers:
I don’t think ferrets make good pets. They are very hard to take care of and most people don’t know what really goes into keeping them.
If you get a ferret you need to spend about 3 hours a day with it out-side of its cage. They are very fun to play with, but they do bite. I used to have 5 ferrets and we had two that bit so hard they could break the skin. They don’t bite to be mean or cause they are scared (cause they usually are not scared of anything) they bite in play like puppies.
They use corners to go potty, and it sounds easy enough to clean or put a litter box there, but they will usually push the litter box out of the way to poop behind it. They lift their butts to poop so it gets all over walls and the carpet in that corner (and it doesn’t wash off easy).
They have a natural odor about them, just like any animal (yes, even with their scent glands removed) because of the oils on their skin. This is highly offensive to some people. So think if you want to have people over to the house 50% or more of them might be disgusted and think your house is gross.
You need to spend 3-4 hours a day playing with them and then another hour every day, and 3 hours one day a week cleaning. They require a lot of time, and you cant go one day with neglecting them because it will come back to bite you in the butt.
When we had ferrets we let them have one room and would close the door, they dug up all the carpet around the door and in the corners of the room, destroyed it. They can and will tear up carpet if they want something behind it.
They are also expensive to buy, expensive to maintain (food is costly), and expensive to provide medical treatment for.

How do you make internal links for Affiliate Marketing?
Has any one really made money with affiliate marketing? And most importantly “Do the links have to be internal”?
There are many money making opportunities on the net. But I really hate the promises of “You can make tons of money (Then lead with) Can you imagin making all your financial dreams come true with a chain letter that, then ask for money”.
You are then supose to pass it on and get responces to make money. Every one of those go directly in the deleate file.
Here are some ideas for making money. Also some info on Free Advertising. http://homeemployment.3steps.com
Please explain how to do internal links. Thanks.

James asks…
Keep fighting for custody or just settle? ?
My fiance and I are going to court for custody of his daughter. We are asking the court to give us temporary full custody based on the living conditions she is in when she’s with her mom.
The mom shares a one bedroom apartment with seven other people and an eighth lives in a garage. The mom sees nothing wrong with these living conditions and feels insulted that we are trying to get temporary custody because of this.
The little girl says that the people in the house hit her and that when she rides in a car with her mom that she sits on a pillow between the two front seats and ducks when a police officer drives by because all other seats are full. The problem is we haven’t seen any obvious bruises and have no way of proving that these things are happening. We did file a report with Social Services and they interviewed the family in the presence of the little girl and determined that she didn’t always do as she was told so if she was being hit, there was probably a reason (I’m not kidding, this is what the man told me.)
My fiance and the mom went to mediation and were unable to come to an agreement so the case went back to the judge. The judge requested that they come back because the mom hadn’t brought a translator, didn’t have money to hire a translator there and hadn’t served a response.
Since they were unable to come up with an agreement in mediation (the mom refused to budge at all, she thinks that his fri night to mon morning is too much time already and sees nothing wrong with her environment) the mediator suggested a custody evaluator which he said could cost up to $20,000.00.
My fiance and I both work and make enough money to support ourselves, take care of his daughter’s needs and pay for a two-bedroom apartment so his daughter can have her own room. We aren’t using lawyers because we really can’t afford it and I’m totally fine with working extra hours and doing whatever we have to do to get a custody evaluation done, but don’t want to get so far in debt that we can’t support the little girl if we get her. We’d like the mom to pay for half of the evaluation, but she doesn’t work.
Are we better off taking our chances with the judge and hoping that the judge sees her environment as unacceptable and paying for the evaluation so that a professional can determine what’s best for this child? Or would we be better off giving up on getting her a bed in a bedroom (that’s all we’re asking the mom to provide for her) and trying to get a little extra time and stipulations stating no corporal punishment?
I think the living conditions are unexceptable and that the little girl deserves every opportunity available to her and that she’s worth fighting for. But if the courts, social service, cutody evaluators, mediators and all other players involved don’t see anything wrong with where she currently is, I don’t want to keep fighting a battle that we won’t win. I’d rather pour that money into a family vacation fund and college fund for the child and just make the most of every minute we get to spend with her. Advice????
Mikey answers:
If this was my child, I couldn’t give up. I wouldn’t care what it cost me. If I was denied, I would appeal. As much as you say you can’t afford an attorney, I think it would be cheaper to get one. $20,000.00 for a custody evaluator? It sounds like you are being taken for a ride by the mediator imho. A lot of attorney’s have payment plans and would cost a whole lot less.

Richard asks…
in theory, should every citizen of the United States be given equal economic opportunities at birth?
or else, how can you say the wealth of the capitalists is fair?
most poor people would gladly be rich if they only had the opportunities the bourgeoisie do.
so to make everything “equal” as conservatives always claim capitalism does (it doesn’t): should every citizen at birth be given equal economic opportunities?
Mikey answers:
It is hypocritical for America to claim to be the “Land of Opportunity” when the best jobs go to the graduates of the best schools, whose tuition can only be afforded by the richest Americans. Now, even access to adequate health care is becoming a luxury that only the wealthiest American families can afford.

John asks…
Do we really get equal opportunity? Or just an equal base?
What I mean is, there is no such thing in America as “equal opportunity.” My family worked hard to raise me right and give me a thousand times as many opportunities as some kid in foster care got. Its obvious that the kid of two doctors had a lot more opportunity than the kid of no parents. I grew up learning tennis and golf and mathematics, and I drove a Mercedes at age 16 and got into one of the best schools and am, for my age, what is considered successful.
Its not like I did this on my own. I was given every opportunity I could ask for…this does not happen for most.
We don’t all start at the same starting line. We don’t all get equal opportunity.
What we do all get, is a certain basic level. A minimum. We all have access to public transportation and public education. We all have protection from policemen and firemen. We all have the right to a home as a child (whether its my million dollar home or a foster home).
Can someone explain to me the conservative argument of “equal opportunity” and how it makes any sense? Is it not better to say we all have an minimum initial opportunity? Is the liberal agenda not merely to extend this already present minimal initial opportunity, which makes this country great?
Mikey answers:
The argument of equal opportunity from what I was taught is that we all have the opportunity to do what we want. We can all grow up to be dr’s, scientists, police officers etc…. Yes you had a much better chance at actually getting to become a successful doctor than say an orphan but at the same time nobody is telling the orphan your not aloud to go to medical school because your an orphan. So we all in America have the equal opportunity to be successful or even unsuccessful but we are not all staring off at the same base equally. In some countries (or even in history) if you were a peasant than thats what you were you couldn’t overcome that status etc…
