Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job

Richard asks…

how can i find a summer job for a teenager?

I live in Raymore, MO and I just turned 17 in March.
I would like a job just for in the summer that is for teenagers.
I don’t want to work at a grocery store, or restaurant. I would like to work somewhere fun.

I was thinking about volunteering at a daycare, but I need babysitting classes first. Would anybody know where I could take those at?

If not, then any suggestions of a fun work place would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mikey answers:

Talk to the guidance office at their school.
They’ll probably have to get a work permit, anyways.

Good luck!

Donald asks…

Is it possible for a motivated french boy to find an interesting summer job in London?

Hi,
I’m French, I’ve just turned 18 and I’d like to find a summer job in London for this summer.
i’ve been twice to the US and about 8 times in England; all my trips were fairly short (except 1 month and a half in Philadelphia)
and my English is not bad, at least as good to be able to understand everything and to be understood without any
trouble.
During my trip in Philadelphia, I worked in a summer-camp and it was great to work with kids.
I come to London from june,28 to july,30 and everyone told me most of the jobs available in summer are in restaurants
and pubs. I’d like to work in as well, but do you know whether there are other job-offers?
Thank you for you answers

Mikey answers:

You can become a male escort if you are good with people and are attractive… Post yourself on the internet and charge around $200 an hour or $1100 a night… It’s allot easier if you are gay but I’m straight and I get $1100 a night and I only have women as clients… And women love frenchmen =)

Laura asks…

Where can i find summer jobs online?

Im still 14 but i want to have a job online to help my parents financially.

Mikey answers:

Tutoring online, its real but you have to actually put some time and effort into it, they pay through paypal every 30 days- I make anywhere from $40 to $100 a day and I work 4 hours a day. Stick to subjects you understand, I write a lot of essays. Heres the website address.

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job

Richard asks…

How can I find a summer job in Montreal?

I am a teacher so I have this summer off. I really want to do somthing different, but I’m willing to do anyting (almost :) Ideas are retail, tour guide, or something really unusual. I’m open! I’d prefer not to teach but the job has to support living there during the summer (another challenge).

Thank you

Mikey answers:

Look for www.emploiquebec.net for students jobs and other kind of temporary jobs : retails stores, convenients stores hires people for temporarty, part times, full time or summer times. Usually around minimum wage (7.50$) or a little more. Teaching summer courses should be a lot more convenient and well paid, but I don’t know how you can get there, but you can try to call some colleges to ask : like Cégep de Saint-Laurent 514.747.6521 or University Concordia 514.848.2424 for instance.

If you’re out of Canada, get info about your obligations to get a permit for working here. Http://www.easyexpat.com/montreal_en/job_jobs.htm give some good advices for it and other jobs’ ideas.

Sandra asks…

Any tips for finding a summer job?

Hey :) So I am finishing school in a few weeks (June 27th, well, months, but to me it seems closer lol) and seeing as I am finishing my GCSEs I thought this summer would be the perfect opportunity to get some work experience and earn a bit of money.
I was thinking of applying for a job in my nearest shopping centre? I was wondering if you had any advice as to what companies to avoid, how I go about giving my CV in etc etc. I was also thinking of applying at the Apple Store? Would this be a problem at all?
Thanks in advanced x

Mikey answers:

You can find summer jobs using internet, there are lot of summer jobs available on net.

Michael asks…

Where can I find a summer job in Scotland?

I’ve tried multiple searches on Google but to no luck – I’m not sure where to begin. I’m looking for any job that will pay my stay for the summer and I have no particular field that I need to work in. Any help searching would be appreciated!!

p.s. Is there a Craigslist for Scotland?

Mikey answers:

Bryanna, what nationality are you? Have you looked into whether or not you need a work permit before you arrive here, because if you are not a citizen of the European Economic Area, or cannot get the Ancestry visa you will not be able to work here legally without the work permit…

The rules and regulations can be found here…

If you are not a citizen of the EEA and are intending to stay here for a few months then you will have to prove to our immigration that you have the funds to support yourself whilst you are here. It’s not a problem if you are a citizen as you can just turn up and find a place to live and a job.

However, if you are eligible to come here to work then you could try the job centre plus as the majority of jobs are advertised there…

Carol asks…

Would the guidance consellors at my school help me with finding a summer job?

It’s the end of June already and i’m scared that it’s too late for me to apply to most places for summer jobs. I applied for a summer youth jobs program, but my application got rejected so i’m jobless right now.

I’m desperate for a summer job, but i have NO volunteer/work experience…with nothing to put on my resume and i’ve never done an interview.

I want to talk to a guidance consellor at my highschool about applying for summer jobs. But i’m wondering, would they be able to help me out?

I’m 15 by the way.

Mikey answers:

Perfect place to go.

Charles asks…

What should I do this summer if I don’t find a summer job?

I will be 17 years old in June and I will be graduating from high school. I have been looking for a job since April and no one has called me yet. So I need to continue applying at stores.

but what should I do this Summer if I don’t find a job??

Mikey answers:

Have you been submitting a cover letter with every resume? Look at job postings on websites like kijiji.ca
I think you may be able to find something
If not…
Work at a camp
volunteer
do some courses perhaps?
Do a language immersion program (that’s what I did after grade 12 – was an amazing experience – for FREE, paid for by my govt b/c we are a bilingual country)
maybe u could ask your guidance counsellor about possibilities

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job Online

Steven asks…

Summer Job.?

Well I am 15,going on 16.Lately with all the gas prices and everything raising prices,I see that I need more money.
I get 40 dollars a month.
But 3 of my brothers and my sister’s birthday is within the next 2 months.Plus I just need to buy a good bit of things I have been wanting {Softball glove and stuff like that} Well I live in Louisiana. Can anyone give me the link to a site to find a job in Louisiana or give me any ideas. Please don’t say cutting grass, everyone that lives anywhere near me has horses or cows and don’t really care much about grass. We let our horses free in the yard to eat the grass mostly or my dad cuts it because we have a big yard.Cutting grass is out of the question.I would love to babysit because I have been around small children my whole life but where can I find someone who is hiring.I really need the extra cash really soon.0h and if yall have a site to make money online..Any Help Is Important! 10 POINTS!

Mikey answers:

If you want to babysit, put an ad in the paper. Thats how i found my full time babysitter. Parents are in the same boat you are. They need a babysitter and have no idea where to find one.
Also, a girl who lives in the same neighborhood as me put little postcards in people’s mail boxes saying that she would be willing to babysit. It was a good idea, and now it is hanging on my fridge so if i ever need one at night or something i know who i can call.

You could always try working at the mall, or a local fast food joint.

You can work at the age of 14, just get a work permit from your school. But if you’re working for cash, there is no need for one.

Laura asks…

Hard time finding work for recent commerce grad – need advice?

I graduated this summer from University of Toronto for the B Comm program. My grades are average, 3.01 CGPA out of 4.0. I don’t have much experience, only worked as a sales associate for wal-mart in high school for a few months and a telemarketing job for a few months in university.

I’m having trouble finding a job and I’m interested in finance. Will it get easier once I pass level 1 of the CFA exam? I’m planning on taking the test in December this year. What can I do? I’ve had my resume looked at/edited and I’ve applied to many jobs posted at school, online, and everywhere with no luck. Any advice? How long does it take the average person to find work? I am only asking for a full time position related to finance and I don’t care about how much money I get.

Mikey answers:

Go to the defense companies (lockheed-martin, raytheon, L-3, boeing) . They hire many finance types and the pay and benefits are excellent though the hiring process is quite slow.
Mortgage companies pay less but have stock options and a bonus with some jobs.

Donna asks…

Finding a job/ dealing with parents while I can’t find one?

ok, so my parents keep harassing me to find a job. Problem is, nobody is hiring. I’m out of school for summer break from college, so I don’t think anyone wants to hire me just while I’m on break from school. I’ve already tried to find babysitting jobs and I have great credentials for that but nobody has asked me to yet. I am making some money by driving this boy across the street to and from football practice. But its not a whole lot of money, and the more I drive around trying to find a job, the more gas I use. All the money from that little job has gone to gas with nothing left over. And my parents don’t consider applying online as active job searching. They’re convinced that I have to drive places and talk to people to get a job, even though I don’t think someone wants to hire me for a couple of months out of the year. And they’re not giving me any money. Any ideas on good jobs? or on how to handle the situation with my parents.

Mikey answers:

Try house keeping at a nice hotel, its a seasonal job, not bad hours, and the work isn’t bad if it’s a nicer hotel.

Robert asks…

Looking for a summer job!!?

Me and My friend are looking for jobs, and we cannot find any anywhere and we’re getting really frustrated! I think I might have found one, and now my friend needs help. She lives in Cottage Grove, and she’s 14. But yeah she’s been really frustrated, because she’s been looking online for the past couple days and can’t find any jobs in her area. Please Help!!

Mikey answers:

At 14 about the only job she will be able to get is babysitting, cleaning house, cutting grass, or helping an elderly neighbor. Check craigslist.com or care.com

Thomas asks…

Is there a website I (a teen) could use to help me find a job?

I don’t wanna work online or from home. I’m 15 years old and I’m in desperate need of a job, even if its just a summer job. I’ve checked many places in my area but you must be at least 16 years of age. Any help please?

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job In Spain

William asks…

Can Canadians find work in bars/restaurants/tourism for short periods without a work permit in Barcelona?

I’m looking for people who may have been successful finding work in Spain without a work permit, temporary jobs in tourism/bars/restaurants for a couple months, part-time. Were you paid cash? Is it impossible to find this kind of work as a non-European? I’m traveling to Spain in May for the summer.

Mikey answers:

It´s difficult to even get a job in bcn w papers!!let alone without!!!

In other words, u want to work “illegally” during summer? LoL…am sure u can find some but depends on if the employer wants to hire u, coz that can cost them a hefty fine.Good Luck tho & Cheers! :)

Mandy asks…

I should find a way to convince my bf about going to Spain instead of going to LaTİN aMERİCA!!!!?

hey people, this summer me and my bf wanna go abroad for learning spanish. At the first place,we both had wanted to go to Latin America(Guatemala) but now i changed my mind.He thinks my family made me to change my mind. Because,my dad wants me to go to Spain. My bf thinks Spain is so expensive for living. Also he worries about finding a job there. He is an english teacher. I think it is not that hard to find a job as an english teacher. There should be lof of english courses in Spain. How can i convince him about going there instead of Latin america?? I wanna go Malaga. How will i tell him.We might argue again.
i haven’t found any websites which i can show my bf that there are opportunities for him in Spain.

Mikey answers:

Honey, I LOVE Spain, but I have to warn you, jobs for Americans….NOPE. Ever since the EU, there are no jobs open to just go find a job, or I’m sure even trying to do self-employment. The visas just aren’t there. If you really want to find work, you should try an exchange program.

He is right, expenses are ridiculous in Spain these days. Housing is expensive, and pay is low. Inflation has been out of hand for a while, now. I have a friend who had just finished paying off her one-bedroom apartment, and now, needing two bedrooms, had to start all over again at twice what she was paying before. (this is in Sevilla).

Search “European Work Exchange” and you should find a bunch of programs. If you don’t, start with CIEE, and then EF. I’m not sure what EF does in terms of teaching, but they are an educational travel organization, and I know they arrange au pairs, they might have something.

If you wind up deciding to go to Guatemala, You’ll surely have an excellent time, there, too. I understand all you have to do there (like in Mexico) is to find an apartment, hang a shingle that says “English lessons”, and you’re golden.

I know people who’ve studied in both locations, and it seems that wherever you go, if you have a good attitude, you will think of as “home” and always enjoy returning.

¡Buena Suerte!

Maria asks…

What shall I do?

Hello, I will loose my job within 1 month, I´m working for a customer service (call center) in Barcelona (Spain) for more than 7 years… Human Resources is looking for another job for me, I rejected already 2 job positions, because my perfil didn´t match with the requirements…So it is possible that I will be unemployed by the end of April…Would you accept any dept. even that you have problems with the people who are working in that dept…or that you do not like the work, because it is borring like nearly everything in that company… I studied secretary with the languages german, spanish, french and english…..Do you think I will find another job??? In summer I would like to improve my languages and computer….Do you think I can add in my cv english knowledge advanced??? Thanks for your answers!!!

Mikey answers:

I think you should find a job that you feel happy and comfortable doing. If not, you will end up hating your job and will be grouchy all the time. Also, find a job that has noticed your academic success.

Richard asks…

I am thinking about moving abroad to Spain i would appreciate some feedback?

Howdy people. How are we? Well let me begin, i have been thinking for sometime and i have come to the idea of finally getting around to moving abroad. I have recently got a divorce and believe it is now time to follow my dreams and finally leave my homeland.
I have been working for the past 20 years of my life in an IT role. To be quite honest, one is rather bored of this way of living. I fancy a fresh start: new jobs role, new routine, new indulgence in communication. I have done ALOT of research, I am aware that Spain as a high unemplopyment. 9 million of there 45 million are unemployed: but we have to remember that alot of spanish locals dont want to work, have to work, work in my field etc etc. .
I have read some questions and answers already on here which i find to be rather submissive! I have the charisma, drive, enthusiam to really make a go of things. “he who dares, wins”. Life is about taking risks. I have a little nest EGG that will see me good for renting a property and living for up to about 6 months.

There are ALOT of jobs going to be availble not only for the summer months as its holiday season but for new expanding business in the Gilbraltar region.

I was wondering if anybody had any PERSONAL EXPERIENCES in moving to spain, or moving to another country or living in another country etc etc: I am not interested in hearing answers from jealous, submissive, negative individuals.
I really would like some real genuine comments. If not one can offer me this then that is fine. Please do not just answer for the points.

Thanks

Leo

Mikey answers:

This past summer I moved to live with a family in Barcelona, Spain for about a month. During my time there, I learned and improved my spanish extremely quickly and experienced the life of living in Spain. I have to say that it is EXTREMELY laid back. Shops and stores open when they feel like it. Seriously, they open when the owners want to and when they feel like it. They are also crazy drivers, swerving in and out of lanes and passing slow people on two way streets! When it comes to going to bed, they don’t go to bed until around 3 AM. They eat dinner around 1030 or 11 PM and eat breakfast at around the same time in the AM. They eat lunch at 3 or 4 and remember for every meal, they all come together. No matter what they are doing, they always return to their families and have meals together. They eat A LOT. I did not eat much because of the time change and they thought I was depressed and told my parents I wasn’t eating! Also, they treat everyone like family. They invite you for dinner at their house and they do everything for you and are very helpful. The culture and the pace is much different than in America. No one is in a rush, and they don’t care if you are late. The country and the city is very alive at all times and it was a great experience!

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job In France

Richard asks…

What names to use for these?

Please dont report, it took me a lot of time to find the photos etc thanks.

1. Your name is Olivia and you are single, just graduated college. You take a summer long internship in France, and while there you see two sisters in an orphanage. One is only a week old she has dark brown hair and hazel eyes, and is nameless. The older one is 3 years old, has curly blonde hair and blue eyes named Genevieve. You fall in love with them and decide to adopt. Give Genevieve a middle name after your mother, give the unnamed baby a French first name, and any middle name. Them when they are a bit older:

2. Only 6 months later you meet a really amazing guy named Blake. He is an architect and he takes you to his family’s vacation lighthouse over the holidays.

http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=9781691

Things get a little crazy and you wind up pregnant! It is with a boy! The labor is difficult and you nearly die. Blake wants the first name to be Oliver, male version of you, middle name must have to mean or do with the ocean.

3. A year later you and Blake decide to get married. Where do you get married and what is the wedding, cake, etc like? Post pics or describe!

4. You two move into a bigger house, also post a pic or describe it. Your son really wants a brother, and 2 years later he gets his wish but with one more sister!! Its twins, a boy and girl. They both have honey blonde hair and green eyes and are attatched at the hip. Also they are both summer babies. First names should both sound cheerful or have to do with summer somehow, middle names must have matching initials.

5. Your husband is a bit disappointed he never got to name a kid after him, but 2 years later you wind up pregnant one last time, and it’s a boy! Also he is definitely a daddy’s boy. Of course the first name must be Blake, middle name can be anything you’d like.

6. Optional: Describe, jobs, grandkids, and post photos! thanks :)

David asks…

Starting my own European adventure?

Presently, I am a college student who loves new experiences, learning, and traveling. All of these were brought together over my summer experience studying abroad. I enjoyed touring the six countries I went to in Europe– Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Italy. I came upon the revelation today that I would actually like to live there for a year or two either after college or for graduate school. I was wondering if anyone knew how difficult this would be to do and what things I would need to do prior to going (how I would find a place to live, how I would attain a job, and things of that nature). Any monetary figures that you may know off hand would be lovely (that may be a bit of an absurd thing to ask) such as living expenses compared to here in the US. As far as work goes, I am an English major…so I don’t know what my options would be being that I know little from other languages.

Are there any exchange programs or work study programs I could possibly go though?

Mikey answers:

Here we have two exchange programs, “Socrates” and “Erasmus”, but I’m not sure if they apply to people from US, too. Google them, maybe you find something useful. Good luck.

Laura asks…

Immigration to Canada as a Skilled Worker?

I am an English/British citizen and it has been my plan for many years now to emmigrate to Canada. I am expecting a 2-1 for my Batchelor’s degree in Software Engineering, after which I will do a 1 year Master’s degree in the same area. I have 15 months full time paid experience in the industry. I will finish this my Master’s degree summer next year. I have the highest level proficiency in English (obviously, being English), and also a good level of French (France is only 2.5 hours away). Finally, my Dad’s brother and sister both live in Toronto, where I wish to emmigrate to.

I wish to emmigrate immediately after I finish my Master’s degree. I understand that there are long wait times (http://www.canada.org.uk/visa-info/processing_times.htm) of 4 years for permanent residence, or 6 weeks for a work permit. I have had a very good look on the official immigration website, and I believe the only avenues I have are either to wait 4 years for a permanent residence application to be processed, or to find arranged employment and get a work permit. There are fast-track immigration options for people in my industry, but that requires a minimum of 2 years full-time experience, however I only have 15 months (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/itw-jobs.asp#jobs5).

So far this leaves me with applying for a work permit as my only option, is that correct? The Canadian immigration website says that for both permanent residence and work permits, the application must be made from outside the country.

So to sum up, I guess I would need to visit Toronto to go to job interviews, secure a job offer, then leave the country again and apply for a work permit?

Any other suggestions or comments you may have are very much appreciated!

Thanks
I forgot to mention, I will be going on holiday to Toronto this summer. Do you think it is worth trying to apply for a job 10 months in advance?

Also, I assume my situation will be taken advantage of by employers, and I will get a sub-standard wage in my first months/year in Canada. Do you think this is a fair statement?

Thanks

Mikey answers:

Unless your software engineering experience is in a very specialist field, you will have difficulty getting permission to immigrate. You also need at least one year of continuous work experience

Anyone who wishes to hire you will have to provide documentation to prove that there are no Canadians eligible to do the job. Since we have just had a round of downsizing, there are a lot of Canadians looking for that sort of job. I doubt anyone will hire you that far in advance on the strength of a qualification that you do not yet have.

I see you assume that you will be taken advantage of in your first months/year. Have you considered the possibility that you, as a new immigrant, new to a company, might be a little less useful?

If your French is good enough – accented but accurate – to work in full time, write reports and give direction, you might consider Quebec.

Sorry, this isn’t a good time.

Joseph asks…

Help: What are my chances for PeaceCorps?

Hey all, before I know it, I’ll be filling out my Peace Corps application. I am a junior at a public university so I have some time before I submit it. I’d like to get some input on what my chances for Peace Corps work are. If you have any input on other things I could do to better my chances, that’d be great!

I am majoring in History, minoring in Anthropology, and my overall specialization is in International Development.

Not sure if it matters, but my current GPA is 3.71.

By the time I have graduated college, my language experiences will be:
- 4 years of college level Russian
- Possibly 1 year of Farsi or Urdu
- 3 years of high school French

I am currently on the executive board of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity. My position deals with Boy and Girl scouts. Helping with fund raising, manual labor at camp sites, planning outdoor activities, etc… But I do much more within the fraternity as far as volunteer work in the community.

This year I’ll be working under a professor doing research on foreign affairs with Russia and Eastern Europe.

I recently finished a job as an intern for a museum, handling artifacts, doing research, writing exhibit labels, etc…

Also, hopefully, I will be an intern for the Michigan Peace Team – writing news letters, doing research, going to nonviolence training sessions, etc…

This last summer I worked on an organic farm in South Africa for a couple weeks. My knowledge of agriculture is basic, but it was an experience. My only other traveling includes learning French on a high school trip to France.

Hopefully, before I graduate I will study abroad in Russia for a language program or find an internship of some sort in DC.

As far as what I’d like to do in Peace Corp, I am not set on any one thing. Education (since most of my job experience centers around writing) or Community Development.

What scares me is my major in History – how can I help out a community abroad with something abstract?

Sorry if this question is a little long!

Mikey answers:

That’s awesome, go ahead and apply, I did two years in Vanuatu, a country in the South Pacific. It was awesome, I lived abroad when I was a kid in Europe because of my dads job, which helped a lot being away from the USA.

History is a good major, you can really help out in teaching at schools. My major was Accounting, apparently I became a math teacher instead :)

All those experiences will surely get you in, also you need to be in shape or at least physically fit. Also have a very open mind and be prepared mentally for the experience.

Why am I giving this advice, you will do just fine…Good Luck and no regrets.

Betty asks…

Honestly people.. this is a long one, but I really need advice?

Okay. I’m dating my best friend. I’ve known him for 7 years, we’ve been best friends for 3 years, and we’ve been dating for just over 2 months.

He was in a long term relationship, I think for 6-7 years, something like that. His ex went to France for a year for school, and dumped him over Facebook when she got there. This was last summer.
Well, I had known that he had been depressed, but I didn’t know why. A mutual acquaintance told me the story, and I was being a good friend and I was there for him. (for reference – and yes, this is relevant – he cheated on his ex with me on several occasions almost 4 years ago, and I’ve been hopelessly in love with him pretty much since I met him. Oh, and he’s five years older than me)

Well these events brought us much closer together. Almost every night he drove over to my neighborhood and we went on walks together, and on several occasions he spent the night with me. Eventually we started having sex again, and he ended up taking me on my first date. That night, he told me he wanted to be with me (two months after his ex left) and it took a little over a week before we actually became a couple.

For the record, we’re complete opposites. He’s a theater nerd indie dude, kinda grungy and stuff. Very quiet and introverted. I’m just flat out wacky, kinda trendy, and loud.

That’s just the background information, which is necessary in this situation.

Now, I know he’s still bent out of shape over his ex. When we became a couple he said “well do you want to get hurt now or later?” (I had told him I was willing to take a chance, no matter how scared I am of getting hurt) and basically ended the subject of us becoming a couple (which btw took A LOT of discussing) with “this CANNOT affect our friendship” what is that supposed to mean? Am I the rebound chick?

He’s kind of a ladies man, and I’m ridiculously possessive and jealous. I’m mostly keeping my insanity to myself, just so I don’t ruin anything. I expressed to him my concerns yesterday, which are:
What am I to him? Rebound? Does he still talk to his ex? What happens between us when she comes back? Is he going to see her? Is he going to dump me to get back with her? I feel like I have to compete with her for his affection when she isn’t even trying; she has a new boyfriend and IS IN EUROPE.
In response to pretty much everything I said, all he responded with was “I haven’t talked to her in weeks.” …….okay!? What about everything else? He did agree that he can’t blame me for thinking that way, which I find important on his part.

Before we got together I was forcing myself to accept that it would never happen and that I just want him to be happy – with or without me. Well, now that we’re an item, I can’t quite tell what’s going on with him. I don’t want to be intrusive and ask him 20 questions, this is a new thing for me (dating a guy with a job and a car and that’s significantly older than me and that isn’t an abusive psychotic freak) and I’m walking on eggshells here, because I just don’t want anything to go wrong.

I want some insight from anyone who reads all of this – what do you see going on here? Do I have any reason to be jealous and crazy? I’ve already let my guard down – should I put the wall back up? What would you do if you were in a situation like this?

PLEASE – please give me some insight. Anything would be helpful.
Obviously I love him unconditionally. I know that it’s worth it to be with him even if I get hurt in the end – but I’m so wary of it. The last thing he wants is to hurt me, and I honestly don’t see a future for us. I’m taking the chance because I don’t want to spend my life wondering “what if?”

I want to know what people would do if they were in my shoes, or even his.

Mikey answers:

Well first, i DON’T think you are a rebound girl.
I understand why you would get jealous, i know i would.
Try and put yourself in his situation, he was with this girl for years! She would have been a big part of his life. Yes he should turn all of his attention to his new girlfriend now (you) but sounds like he needs a little more time to fully get over her.
I’m not saying he still loves her. But getting over a serious relationship is going to take time.

You two being nothing alike sound like a good couple (:
Be good to him to help him get over this girl, you can ask him the questions you have, about her and get his serious answer.

I really hope it turns out good for you both, i know how good it is dating your best friend (:
If it is meant to be it WILL be.
Good luck! Try not to over think little things and stay positive. He’s yours.

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job St Louis

Jenny asks…

are living costs too high in san francisco compared to st louis?

have you ever heard work and travel program? it’s for forign student like me. they place us a job in usa for summer.

two years ago i participated wat program and i moved to st louis. i worked for 3 months and saved some money. i bought a car. next 1 month traveled big cities of east-cost.

this time i wanna live in california and travel around. but i’m really worried about living costs in california. they found me a job in san francisco in a company named “acrobat outsourcing”

how much money do outsouricg employees earn more or less in sf?

i will share rent with four persons. can we find a two bedroom house monthly rent around 1500 dollars

are there any wall-marts or discount markets like it around sf. are fast-food restaurant prices same as other cities or same as st louis.

can i buy a decent car to drive las vegas :D around 1500 dollars in sf. i searced craiglist ads but asking prices are too high comperad to st louis. i bought a 95 volvo 1100 dollars last time

Mikey answers:

Living costs in San Francisco is the highest in the west coast, the only other city that’s more expensive in the U.S. Is New York City.

You can expect to pay at least 2500 dollars for a two bedroom house in San Francisco.

There are no Walmarts or discount markets in city of San Francisco because the cost of living is so high.

HOWEVER, there’s the easy bay or rest of bay area, which can be much cheaper and there’s Walmart. You can live cheaply in cities like San Leandro but it’s going to be living in a country versus living in San Francisco.

There are tradeoffs, I grew up most of my life in the east bay and moved to San Francisco couple years back. If you like diversity and culture, San Francisco is way to go.

California can be cheap, it just depends where you would live. City of San Francisco is very expensive, the most expensive in California.

Michael asks…

I’m 14 and live in St. Louis where can I work?

I’m thinking about the library, family dollars, and Artwork. But I need help.

Please somebody help me find a job for the summer!!!
How old do you have to be to work at family dollars?
Do the food courts hire 14 year olds,
can I work at Union Station, and can I work at Wendy’s?

I don’t live here so I can’t get a worker permit.
could I try getting a work permit from my friend’s school.

Mikey answers:

You will have to get a work permit and the only place that I know that hires under 16 is movie theaters. Most 14 year olds tend to do babysitting or cut the grass for older people in the neighborhood.

George asks…

what is the best order to prepare for a big move to st. louis?

My roommate and I are supposed to be moving to st. louis at the end of the summer. She says she wants to go down and look for a job for herself before we move because I already have one waiting for me. But I think we need to find our house first. If I found one now and put a deposit down would they hold it for a few months for me since I can’t really move yet?

we’re just stuck in the predicament that we don’t have a house yet and she doesn’t have a job. but how can she get a job there, if she doesn’t live there yet?

Mikey answers:

She can come down and certainly look for a job but it will be hard to do interviewing if she’s not living in town. That being said, if I were her I would still post my resume as being interested in jobs in St. Louis just in case the perfect position happens to open up. It may be worth driving here for the interview.
As far as the place to live, you might be able to talk a landlord into waiting a few months but most of them want to get the rental filled as quick as possible since they are losing money when its empty. There are plenty of choices of properties so you dont have to rent something right away. If you look a month before you are wanting to move, you won’t have any problem finding something. You might want to drive around before then and visit neighborhoods and see what’s available but unless you have some unusual requirements, there should be no problem finding an apartment.

Lisa asks…

Jobs for 16 year old in St. Louis?

I want an after school/weekend job? Sixteen years old? Ideally I’d like to waitress for the tips but I know that’s hard to find because I can’t serve alcohol. I worked at Six Flags last summer and did an internship so I’ve worked a bit before. Please save the babysitting idea. I’ve tried it and can’t find any jobs. Thanks for all your help!

Mikey answers:

Try going thru craigslist, even the odd section of the employemnt category and see what you find.

Ruth asks…

Should I let my sister move in with me and my fiancee.?

I am getting married in July and going to try and start a family right away. However my sister who can’t find a job where she lives in florida wants to live with me and my fiancee for the summer while she tries to find a job in st louis. Is it a good idea?
Fiancee doesnt like the idea but maybe could change idea. Parents putting a lot of pressure to let my 18 year old sis live with me
thank you for all these great posts glad me and my fiancee see the same as others…my sis does live with our parents and she cant find a job in florida cause she is living in a seasonal area and its off season…and they promise it would only be temp….but still no decision has been made yet

Mikey answers:

No. Why doesn’t your sister stay with her parents until she gets on her feet, financially. She is basically, their responsibility until she can launch off on her own. That is not a good way to begin your marriage.
