Sharon asks…
I have no friends in high school and feel pathetic, what am I supposed to do?
The actual school and grades isn’t a problem at all, I have mostly A‘s and B’s, so that’s not a concern. But…..it’s a long story, I’ll try to shorten it down.
Last summer my mom and I moved from New York, where I lived my whole life, to Texas so she (my mom) could get a job. We live with my aunt and uncle and their kids. So basically, I left everyone I’ve ever known to go live with family members I barely even know.
Now, the new high school I go to is really……”cliquey”. I don’t seem to “fit in” to any of these cliques. Everyone keeps to themselves here, and each person is indulged into their own group or clique. These people usually share interests, dress the same, ect. There are a lot of these at my school, usually the cliques consist of 4 or 5 people but sometimes like 8 or ten. I don’t have what I would honestly call ”friends” (as in; people whom I can relate with and share common interests with and such.) Since being in high school I have found it difficult to make friends. The people I know usually talk about dumb stuff and subjects I’m not that interested in, or they’ll never like, really talk to me but just bicker on and on about random silly stuff so it’s never a full conversation I have with them. Some of them physically hit me, and I understand that they’re joking, considering they end every sentence with “just playin’”, but that’s just not cool with me. Some people, who I don’t even know, verbally abuse me in the halls, for no reason. Like today, some random dude threw something at me and it hit the back of my knee. I just ignored it and kept walking to class. While I was walking into my next class, I heard him say, “I bet he liked that…” What the fuck does that even mean!?
I know stuff like this happens at EVERY high school, but I digress.
I guess I just feel totally and completely isolated from everyone. I haven’t hung out with someone in months, or gone to the mall or the movies, or basically done anything fun. I never even use my phone anymore, since I have no one to talk to.
Is anyone else experiencing what I am? I just don’t know what to do with myself. Even my mom is constantly telling me that I need to make friends and get out of the house, but she’ll never understand what I’m going through.
Sorry for the long read, by the way.
Mikey answers:
I switched high-schools too and hated it the first year, but then the next year it got better mainly because I tried a little more and stopped pouting. When it comes to Texas people take pride in where they live and if you look like you don’t want to be there they aren’t going to want you to be there either. Never underestimate the power of school pride when it comes to Texas because that is one thing that ties in all the cliques together.
The thing about highschool is that it really doesn’t matter, because in college you lose most of those connections anyway and make more real ones. But to help out with your current situation: I found friends through school clubs. It’s the easiest and least stressful way to connect with people I promise
The thing is you only need to make like a few friends to get you started. Just start a conversation with someone you’d think would respond back and mention that you are new.

Chris asks…
I need tips and advice on moving responsibly?
HI, I’m going to be 21 years old soon, and currently live in a bad situation. I have to move out by this next summer. Where would one move to that will only have 1,000 dollars to move, no credit established and has a very important dog in her life to her. My dog requires good care that I want to provide her with, and I will like to move somewhere that will be best suited for her and for myself. I will have a graphic Design Associates that I will like to also find a job in.
My brother lives in Brooklyn New York, which would probably be awesome if I could crash at his place until I find my own for my profession, but like I said my dog is very important to me, and I would cry knowing she is cooped in a small apartment all day. She is a active spaniel. I would really appreciate the advice, because I’m sooooooo confused and beating myself up with the the time slipping by.
Thanks!
Mikey answers:
Run some ads on craigs list looking for someone to room with you are going to first and last month rent and sometimes a deposit to move in a place on your own also most utility companies will also charge deposits i would crash with brother save up some more cash and then establish my home

Robert asks…
I would like to audition for a disney channel series but need to know how and where?
Where to start?
I’m in NC could you find any auditions in NC?
Later this summer I’m going back to New York any auditions you can find?
I know most likely I’d get cast in a 2013 series, but I need to know how to get an agent, where some auditions are, and anything else that is important for this type of job.
If you happen to know a site that has list of disney channel auditions all over the USA that would be quite helpful as long as it’s legit. Auditions for an Agency as well. Please do not say start off with commercilas because Zendaya from shake it up got on a series first. Thanks ![]()

thx but could’ve gone without the pedophile remark…
Mikey answers:
Your best shot is to go to LA and hustle like all the other aspiring actresses. Or you can put yourself on YouTube and sell yourself that way. Either way, you have to do something that sets you apart from others. Disney channel is also full pedophiles so, I really don’t understand how you could aspire to work for such a deceitful brand. Good luck!

Ken asks…
how to get a record label?
i know its more than tough to get a record label to sign you. I have tried almost everything – I’ve made demo CDs and press kits and sent them all over the map but i havent heard anything back. I live in sort of a dead town with almost no way out. most people around here live here for their whole lives.
I cannot do that. i have big big goals that i need to accomplish. i want to be a singer. i write my own music and i honestly think i have something. the way i see it, the only way out of my town and into greener pastures is to spend a summer interning at a record label in new york. I have applied for multiple internships there and i think i have an OK shot at getting one. IF i do get the job, would that be an appropriate way to get my foot in the door? After i’ve been there a while, is it innapropriate to give my demo cd to the label, or ask to pay for some studio time?
i just really need to find my way in. (and in no way am i “dissing” my town; it’s just not the place i need to be right now)
Mikey answers:
Make a couple of videos, put them on you tube, email them to everyone you know and if you have truly awesome “one in a million” talent, and some luck, a label will notice you. However, if you have anything less than awesome talent, you will need to pay your dues like everyone else that got a deal and work hard at perfecting your craft. Interning at a label is a good idea, but it will take more than that. You will need to perform a lot at any club you can in order to develop a following. Recording with good people, having a good web presence with videos is important too. Interning will help you meet the right people, but competition is fierce out there and labels always favor the artist who is the complete package. What is that complete package? Solid radio ready songs, strong vocal, great look, seasoned performing skills, hard work ethic and a great attitude.

Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job In New York

James asks…
i feel like everythings just…hopeless now…?
Well a while ago I was “diagnosed” (by my doctor after taking a test) with depression. I also have anxiety and I’m really shy, and in the past few years:
(I’m 14, was in 5th grade when I graduated from my old school and had to move to my current school for 6th grade, now I’m going into 10th)
I’ve moved schools and my “friends” from my old school dumped me and became popular
Hurricane Katrina hit and basically put my whole family into CHAOS (a lot of people lost their homes and people lived with us for a few months)
My neighbor, who I was BFF with since we were 3, started being a
b!tc* to me and saying horrible stuff to me on aim and also dumped me
My grandmother had a lot of medical problems that really stressed my mom out, then she died a few days before my birthday in August
My “new school friends” started ignoring me and dumped me (well I kind of deserved that because I was being kind of distant because of all the other things that were happening)
I saw my crush from my old school at one of our school dances, and he didn’t recognize me or something so I tried to tell one of my “friends” but she told everyone else and I felt horribleeeeee
And most recently I quit gymnastics and thought I had friends there but I went to help out at the gym’s gymnastics camp and I found out they hate me too
And my dad might lose his job, so my mom cancelled our New York trip that we’ve been planning since January and we’re also cutting back on a lot of stuff and trying to save money
I probably sound like a little crybaby to a lot of people here, but things just keep getting worse and worse it seems and not a lot has happened that could make me believe that things will get better.
The only thing that makes me feel okay is when I spend a lot of time at a barn about 20 minutes from our house(but now my dad’s complaining about how far away it is, and that’s the closest one to where we live). I’m helping every day with summer camp there (starting again monday I haven’t been this week because of gym camp) and learning a lot about horses and making new friends and stuff. Tuesdays I have lessons but I’ll only be able to go there once a week during school and IDK what’s going to happen to me then.
How can I make things not seem so miserable??? I mean…everything’s just messed up…
Mikey answers:
This may just be the dumbest answer, but it seems to help me. Forget about everything and ride the nicest horse you can find. Tell the horse how you feel. If people find you physco, who cares. Once you graduate, you can begin life a new your way. Just wait and everything will be okay sooner or later. People may dump you, but animals never will.

David asks…
How can I learn to accept that…?
First and foremost, let me start by introducing myself. I’m a 17 year old guy (turning 18 in a couple of days) from New York.
Moving on, I graduated high school and am starting to work and take classes, and I really find it hard to keep track with my social life at the same time. School and work seemingly take up ALL my time. It’s ridiculous. All the people and girls I’ve met over the summer and have worked hard to stay close with are starting to fade away. A couple of girls I have no time to take care of myself and to look good, I barely have time to sleep.
I really want a car, the car I’m targeting is $10,000, and I’m currently working and saving up for one. With my job, I should have enough in roughly less than a year.
I realize that work and school comes first, and it’s a necessary evil, and my social life and girls will come later, but I’m finding trouble accepting this fact.
Can anybody share some wise words, any advice, suggestions, etc, would be appreciated.
Mikey answers:
If these people really care about you, they’ll understand that you need time to manage your life. As long as you’re not feeling super lonely, you definitely should take pride in your work in the meantime. And the women will respect a guy with some independence. There’s that song, No Scrubs: “A scrub is a guy who can’t get no love from me: hangin’ off the passenger side of his BEST FRIEND’S RIDE, tryin’ to holler at me!”
There’s a phrase: “You can’t have your cake and eat it, too!”
Also, let me paraphrase Al Pacino in Scarface: “First, you get the money. Then, you get the car. Then, you get the women.”
Once you get the car, you will feel SO GOOD that you can have a long-term plan and follow through. Dude, it shows you’re a man. Real adults do this. Plus, you’ll take good care of it because you worked so hard for it. I’m still driving a nice new car I bought in 2003 which runs about $10K used. I wouldn’t part with it unless I absolutely had to. Love that car!

Its best if you stay in high school because G.E.D is good but high school diploma is great. And you young. Your only 15. Its best if you just get a high school diploma.

Where to find affordable Vespas?
So for my 17th birthday this summer, I’m asking for a Vespa scooter.
A cute one, maybe cream & mint green like one of my friends has ^_^
I’m flexible with the color, of course.
I want a Vespa & not a car because I’m planning on going to college in New York (I picked out a few I can definitely get into & others where it’s 50/50 so I’m definitely going) & I won’t need a car because it’s New York!
But, a Vespa would be perfect.
Especially for this summer!
I’m trying to get a job & the buses never run on time so a scooter would be great!
So, what dealerships have affordable Vespas?
& any details I should worry about?
Thanks in advance!:)
& I’ve already thought about rainy/snowy days.
Buses/my parents’ cars will be my backups.
Mikey answers:
Since you friends have scooters wouldn’t be easier to ask them since you see them more than we do.

Living in Los Angeles…?
Hi…I’m an Italian girl (so please forgive my grammar mistakes!!) and my bf & I are planning to move to Los Angeles and work there next summer…I know it’s really too soon to plan anything, but i wanted to ask (if u live there/know much about it) if finding a job (any…also as a waitress) and an house (even a simple studio flat) is easy and if it’s the expensive city i expect it to be (lol) ….Actually i’d rather prefer New York,but bf says he wants the sunshine and such stuff and new york would just be too messy for him,do you agree that Los Angeles should be prefered to New York?Would there be easier finding what we need?
Thanks for your answers….
XoXo
P.S. if u have any site you think that might help us,please post them as well with ur answers!…thx a lot
Mmmmh…well….I guess i should opt to super-grey-London,then …which is going to be really gd for my accent (but bf won’t like it AT ALL) …lol… i thought i just needed the “visa permission”, not a special one to work :S
U.S. is definately no more the dream-land!
Mikey answers:
Hi,
Los Angeles IS very sunny. In the summer, it can be very hot. This summer was rather mild.
I prefer LA to NY because of the humidity. It just isn’t as humid here. Also, LA is more spread out, rather than having so many people living literally on top of each other.
Finding a job isn’t too difficult. There are many low-paying jobs in the service industry, particularly in the summer. You can even work at Disneyland, where your “foreign” language experience will be helpful. However, surviving on such a job is next to impossible. You will only make $8 per hour, and a decent studio flat (apartment) costs around $1000 per month, give or take.
Good luck

Mark asks…
A ghost story I am starting, please comment! ~Candlelight.~?
I used to believe in ghosts, when I was little, but then I grew out of the idea, because I was tired of wishing for something more, so I gave up on all things magical. But then I died, and I found out that I was wrong for wishing this upon me, if it was the wish or not, I am a ghost, and it’s not a good thing. It was December 3rd, 1993. I was thirteen. You would think I would be happy for finding what I have been searching for my whole life. But being a ghost isn’t easy. It’s worse than living, it’s worse than dying, it’s not at all I imagined it to be, but I guess nothing is. But before I begin, let me tell you a little bit about ghosts, because I wouldn’t want you to read this, thinking I look like a white floating blob with to black holes for eyes .
Ghosts:
1. They’re real
2. Some are bad
3. Each ghost has to stay in the place where they have an unfinished job, because they will end up at the same place regardless. Some ghosts stay a long time because they’re unfinished job is difficult and suffering.
4. Ghosts do not show up in photos
5. They have appearances, which they can see.
6. There are different types of ghosts depending on their season, mine is winter.
7. We have feelings, and we hold grudges.
8. We can levitate one foot, and walk through anything we choose.
9. I am one of the ghosts with a difficult and suffering unfinished job
10. This is a true story
Chapter 1: How it happened.
Everything has a reason, well I think. So here is the reason I am still half alive right now. The reason I’m a ghost. The reason I’m suffering.
~~~
“Ariella, it’s time to get up!” My step mom yells at me from downstairs. I cringe, and then stretch my arms into the air. I sit up, my eyes drooping. I look into my pearl-framed mirror. I run my fingers to my jet-black hair, and squint my chocolate brown eyes. I died my dark brown hair black a month ago. I pull on my favorite pair of black jeans, red and black striped shirt, and pull over a gray hoodie on top. I pull my hair in a ponytail, and run down stairs.
“Your quick today.” Examines my step mom, Malory.
I stare expressionless. “I guess.” I never liked my step mom.
“I’m going to school now,” I called as I left the house.
I didn’t bother saying goodbye to my dad, I have been mad at him ever since he married Malory.
I walked in the school biting my lip, it’s a habit I have.
My friend Mackey approaches me with a wide smile. Mackey is short for Mackenzie, she’s my best and only friend, and you see I just moved here (Yellow Springs, Ohio, a small town with a population of only 3,761) from New York. Truthfully I love it here, it’s like a big family, but I hate my stepmom, so I pretend to hate it. I visit my mom every summer, but I always wish she would move here, so I could live with her. She lives In the Nevada, Vegas; it’s fun for summers, but dysfunctional for a teenage life.
“Hey.” I say stuffing my coat in my locker.
“Hey, Arieo. I was wondering if you want to come to my house after school?” She replies, saying my nickname. She pronounces it Oreo. Which is why I call her Mackey, like Mac n’ cheese.
“Sure, I would love some time away from the witch.” I reply hinting my stepmom.
“Mine’s on vacation with my dad, my grandma is looking after me.” Mackey has a step mom too, and she’s just as bad as mine.
“Great, peanut butter cookies,” I laugh.
“The best there is.” She adds with a smile.
We walk into our math class, with dull looks, we both hate math, or more the teacher.
Mikey answers:
To fix:
1. The list is way too long. Keep the creepy things like “Some are bad” you can leave the information in the story, if it’s not going to be in the story you don’t need to tell it. (like if there’s no photos point 4 is useless.)
2. Difference between
-you are: “you’re”
-the object that is yours: “your”
Other little things you can fix by reading carefully, for example you switch between “step mom” and “stepmom”. Some sentences are a little awkward
3. Try to use “said” a bit more, especially here ” “Great, peanut butter cookies,” I laugh.”
4. Two evil stepmothers? Are you sure? That’s a bit too cliché. At the very least try to justify it, like “we became special friends because she also lost her mother …”
The pro:
1. I like how you pick your words. Your vocabulary. Not choosing absurdly fancy words like some people here, while not childish, either.
2. You start with something dramatic, the ghost, this poses a question the reader wants to know the answer to.
3. I perceive an attempt at humour between the girls. Too many forget how good a foil humour is to drama.
Jenny asks…
Can you read my writing, I would very much appricate feedback, I am very passionate about it, want opinions.?
Literary Technique Exercise
The New York lifestyle was the only way I had ever known before the past two months. In the summer of 1978, I had enjoyed the charcoal black beaches of Hawaii with my mother who I hadn’t seen or spoken to in the past 10 years. When I was only a child, my parents divorced, sending me and my father to the sardine packed appartements Chicago had to offer. It was extremely difficult for my father to find a job, so my toys never left the clearly marked moving boxes that sat in the corner of my bedroom. It was always tough finding friends and a school that my father could afford, that didn’t include barb wire or search dogs.
But when I was 15 and school was just about finished, my father had no choice but to send me off to my mothers as the apartment tenant was getting impatient about our overdue rent and my father had no expectations of finding a job anytime soon. Our neighbor in 2B loaned us the money for a plane ticket which would take me on a journey
that would change my life forever.
My mother was everything I expected her to be; so intelligent and gentle, and especially passionate about her work that she lived and breathed. For those summer days, we discussed her studies as a scientist, and what I still hold dearly to my heart, the fish of Maui’s coral reefs. The warm waters and graceful seaweed held a magnificent habitat to the Goby fish and coral shrimp, my Mother’s fervor. The way they protected and accepted each other for their weaknesses was so inspiring. For the first time ever, I could truly appreciate life outside the cramped city.
Returning from Hawaii, I came home to my belongings tucked into a small spot of a moving truck, along side my father with a tear of sadness in his eye. We moved to New York that night. I realized the city was no longer my home. My classmates treated me like Leper, and I began to miss my peaceful friends who presented calmness and tranquility. As I became an adult, I grew passionate about
the fish, just like my mother. Her death only made me work harder for my dream to be just like her, spending my life in the place I love along side the tropical fish and my mother’s sprit.
Ill fix the spelling, um it can only be a page so thats why it isnt very detailed. Appricate what you said about it lacking emotion, deff. will add to the depth in the, but like i said it can only be a page, double spaced and i had trouble even adding some details. thanks
Mikey answers:
Ok, I read it all. It was okay. Maybe shorten up some of the sentences. Also, your sentence structure is lacking. Try using different forms of independent and dependent clauses. The repetitive structure makes it a little boring.
On an emotional level, it wasn’t that satisfying. I know that it wasn’t very long, but I wasn’t really set up to like the charactor (or his mother). Therefore, I really didn’t care about what happened. Try making more of an emotional connection with the reader. That’s my suggestion. =)
Can someone please edit my paper. i appreciate your help?
The American Illusion
The American dream means justice, liberty, and happiness. What does it mean to have an American dream? For some people it means thriving for success in many ways and for others it means to make a difference. However, the American Dream varies, but all in one we stand as a nation.
There are problems with our social justice and equality. For instance, some people in America are locked up in jails, and are not to blame. How are they going to accomplish their American Dream? This world seems to be unequal in justice and something needs to be done about it. For instance, if you are with one of your friends and they have drugs in the car with them, you can also get arrested. This seems like an unfair situation because sometimes friends can keep hidden secrets. However, everybody has a different perspective on the American Dream.
For instance, the author in the writing “American Dream” depicts America as a landscape and as a collection of people and positions because there is a lot of history and opportunities in America. The Statue of Liberty represents the American dream because it was a gift from the French as a form of friendship. It stands in Staten Island, New York. In addition, America can be described as a landscape because there is a change in seasons. During the summer the flowers and trees are alive and blossomed. Then, in the winter the trees are leafless and full of white fluffy snow. These seasons can symbolize the people’s lives because in the summer people enjoy their lives more than in the winter. The weather is nice, which allows people to spend time at parks and travel to visit other places. Throughout the winter, people are often in the house
spending time watching television or even reading a book.
America is recognized as one of the most productive places where people can begin a better life. For instance, a girl’s parents brought her as a child to Connecticut so that she could have a better life. More jobs and opportunities are avaible and also better colleges where they can find financial aid.Her mother completed her masters as a teacher and her family is continuing their education in college. This is an example of a better life because they came from Puerto Rico where they offered fewer opportunities in education and less variety of jobs.
The speech” I have a Dream” addressed by Martin Luther King Jr., is an example of why America is a great place to find liberty and accomplish your dreams. For instance, Martin did the best he could to unite the blacks and whites together and he made the world better. He made petitions, speeches and never gave up in his dreams and goals. He made a difference because he believed that blacks and whites should deserve the same freedom and equality in our nation. He stood up for himself and helped defend other blacks. This is why he is known as one of the greatest man to make our nation stronger. In the other hand, there is still racism happening, but not as much as before. At this present time, blacks and whites are able to be seen together and could obtain the same jobs. Martin was brave and did not give up on his dreams. With this saying, Martin did make a difference and his speech touched people all over the world. He let the freedom ring from the mountains to the valleys. He was finally free at last and did not have to fear of the whites.
The author in “America the Beautiful” depicts America as a wonderful place full of excitement. The poem expresses how she feels about America. She describes the moment when the pilgrims came to our land. She also explains how beautiful America is and how god blesses the land. It also says that God blessed America by providing great things to happen. Things like good jobs, and a better living. People can relate to her emotions because America means more than just land to them. It means a place where people can enjoy their lives and live to the fullest. In addition, it is a place where people can accomplish their dreams and be treated equally. No one will judge people strictly because of their nationality or color. Furthermore, America is part of a good government and president. Our president has a lot of plans ahead and works to make our world better and safer. For example, he wants to stop all terrorism and help out our economy. Over all, America is a great beautiful place to reside in.
Friends and families can help others to reach for the stars. Ever wonder how beautiful America really is? Well go and achieve something that you never had the chance to. Go to college and enjoy life to the fullest. Overcoming obstacles boosts your self esteem and makes you thankful for being where you really are. For instance, a girl named Sara accomplished a lot in life.
I’m 25, with inconsistent employment history… Can I qualify for a mortgage?
I’m 25 years old, and live at home with my mother. I graduated from college in May of 2008, and got a job at an engineering firm, working in IT, in September of 2008. I was subsequently laid off six months later in March of 2009. Its now February of 2010, and only now have I found a job, that I start in April or May, in the IT field.
With only six solid months of employment history, followed by a year of unemployment, then new employment for only a couple of months, will I qualify for a mortgage this summer?
I’m located in New York, and I have $50,000 available for a down payment. I want to purchase a two family home to help alleviate the costs. I have never bought a home, so I’m a first time buyer. Does this at all help my situation?
If I have to wait, I will, I didn’t want to wait too long to take advantage of the Buyers’ Market. But if I am going to be turned down, or will only qualify for one with a high interest rate, it doesn’t make sense.
If you need further info to help answer, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your help!
Also, I have excellent credit. I have $30,000 in credit line, and no balance on any of them. When I use them, I pay them.
Mikey answers:
If you have other credit, that you have been able to pay on time and a credit score over 640, you might be able to get in, once you start working again. You are going to really want to check with a mortgage broker, not just go to a bank. A MB can tell you exactly what you will need, with out having to run from bank to bank. (They won’t tell you, the guy taking the applications at the bank has a quota, to keep his job, so he would let a bum apply) A mortgage broker knows who’s loaning money to who, and if you are not picky about what financial institution buys you loan, you will know where you fall.
Betty asks…
Advice on my friends low blow remark she made towards me…?
Last night my close friend and I were talking on the phone and it led to a low blow remark from her. I am a recent college graduate as of last August, was living with this friend for a couple months to help her out and I was determined not to have to move back home. Ironically we are in another state than our college town, but I do have family down here unlike her. The past two months I have been continuing to job search since moving home and its been adjustment because all of my friends are back in the other state both of us used to live in, besides her. I’m social but have to be in a social setting to really get to know others and not being in a college town to make friends or having a full time job currently makes that aspect a little harder. Well her low blow comment last night was, “your just jealous because I can go out to the bar by myself and meet people, I have friends to hang out with and all you do is sit at home and do nothing.” When she said that I was in utter disbelief those words came out of her mouth. This is someone that is like family to me, ive known for 5 years, lived together with while in college and one of my closest friends. If I recall correctly this past summer when she moved down here and I was in New York doing an internship she would call me almost daily, state how bored she was, how she was nervous of not finding a job while she worked on her internship in the fall and so forth. Never once would I have thought to make a comment like that even when I was doing stuff with friends while on internship. So when she said that last night it hit me hard because were supposed to be family and that was a big low blow in my opinion. Its just funny to me how she had the nerve to say that when she was in the same position as me not too long ago. Im not the type of person thats going to go hang out at a bar by myself to meet people and secondly she didnt get up the courage to do that herself until August after being down here for two months. So its the pot calling the kettle black.
Well I got a text from her this morning saying she was sorry and that she was just tired and cranky. However in my opinion you cant blame it on being tired and cranky because obviously you meant what you said. I can accept her apology (even though it was her blaming it on something else), but I cant seem to forget what she said. It really bothers me and were road tripping it back to our college town this weekend which is a 13 hour drive. So timing couldn’t be worse because i’m very disappointed, more than angry and really would like a better apology considering all the times i’ve been there for her when its rough. I guess overall I am still hurt… Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Especially with the trip this weekend and I don’t want to add more fuel to the fire so to speak.
I would say that you should calm her down or let her be…
SHHH…MUBARAK IS BUILDING A WALL
Khaled Abu Toameh
Hudson Institute, New York , December 22, 2009
For years, the Egyptians have been strongly condemning Israel for erecting the security fence in the West Bank . But now Egypt is quietly building its own wall along its border with the Gaza Strip and does not want to hear any complaints.
The Israeli barrier was built with the chief goal of halting suicide bombings and other terror activities against Israelis. The Egyptian fence, on the other hand, is being constructed to stop Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip from entering Egypt .
Many Palestinians can still understand why Israel does not want to open its border with the Gaza Strip. But the majority cannot understand why Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and the rest of the Arab leaders are keeping them locked inside the tiny, overcrowded and poverty-stricken area known as the Gaza Strip.
Israel does not want to reopen its borders with the Gaza Strip and that is regrettable and painful, but also understandable. But what one cannot understand is the negative attitude of the Egyptians and the rest of the Arab regimes toward the misery of their Palestinian brothers. Mubarak and the rest of the Arab dictators should be helping the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and not choking them.
By keeping the border crossings shut and now building the metal wall along the border with the Gaza Strip, Mubarak is in fact sending the Palestinians to knock on Israel ‘s door for help. By now it should be clear that the Arab rulers want the Gaza Strip to remain Israel ‘s problem alone.
The millions of dollars that are being invested in the construction of the new wall could have built hospitals and schools and created job opportunities for the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip. Half a billion dollars could even have solved the severe housing crisis in that area.
The Palestinians are not asking Mubarak to open the border so that they could move to live in Cairo . Most of them are seeking to leave the Gaza Strip to search for jobs or be reunited with their families in other countries. They want Mubarak to open the Rafah border crossing because now that’s the only way to leave the Gaza Strip.
Even worse, the Egyptians often prevent medical and humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip through this border crossing. And in many instances they have also banned human rights activists and missions of solidarity from entering the Gaza Strip to support the Palestinians.
Mubarak is using Hamas’s presence in government as an excuse to build the metal wall. But the truth is that Hamas poses a threat to Israel more than to Egypt , if at all. Hamas’s goal, as clearly stated by its leaders, is to “liberate Palestine ,” not occupy Egypt .
If Hamas really were such a big threat to Egypt ‘s national security, why has Mubarak been negotiating with Hamas leaders over the past three years about different issues, such as a prisoner exchange agreement with Israel and reconciliation with Fatah? And how come Hamas leaders are free to visit Cairo and stay in its finest hotels at the expense of the Egyptian government?
The Egyptians initially denied reports about the construction of their wall, but were forced to backtrack in light of pictures showing the bulldozers and laborers on the Egyptian side. The new Egyptian fence is actually a 10-kilometer underground metal wall that cost at least $500 million. Experts are skeptical about the effectiveness of the project. They note that Palestinians involved in the smuggling industry along the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt are so professional and experienced that they will quickly find ways to bypass the wall.
If anything, the Egyptian wall is likely to escalate tensions in the Gaza Strip, where many Palestinians already feel that they are living in a big prison.
After Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2005, the Egyptians and Arabs have done little to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians there. The ironic part is that Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas is now defending Egypt ‘s right to build a separation wall. This is the same Abbas who, for years, has been condemning Israel ‘s “Apartheid Wall” and urging the world to force Israel to tear it down.
Mikey answers:
I read the article about Israel making a fence across the Gaza Strip and on West Bank area. Mahmoud Abbas is sounding like a hypocrite. Chastising Israel for their wall, yet trying to justify the construction of a wall on the Egyptian border. I think he’s just ashamed that even his fellow Arabs don’t trust, or like, Palestinians as he wants to believe.
I can see why Egypt is building the wall, but it should in fact be helping the Palestinians knowing that area they live in is so tiny and compacted. The Palestinians only have the support of other Arabs when Israel or the United States are involved in some conflict in the region. After that, it’s like tossing them to the side saying they’re on their own. I wonder if more Palestinians will become apart of Hamas in the future, I mean they have nowhere else to turn to, right?
William asks…
How to pay for college?
I’m only a 10th grader and not ready for college yet but I have an older sister who started college this year. As my mom looks through the big amount of money that she has to pay for my sister, I worry and feel sad about everything. My mom works hard everyday just to make the deadline for paying for my sister. Now I don’t even know if I want to go to college but anyways if I do go to college I need to find a way to pay for it myself. I don’t want to make my parents worry anymore. What full-time jobs can I get during the summer and part-time jobs during college? What colleges are good and cheap in New York (I live in N.Y.)? In short, how can I pay for college without my parents help? Please be specific.
Mikey answers:
Study real hard and get great grades so you have a high “Grade Point Average” of around 3.5 or above. Apply for scholarships to several universities that have programs you’re interested in. You may not get a “full” scholarship, but every cent helps. Whatever isn’t covered by a scholarship, you could apply for via a “student loan.” This can be repaid after graduation over a period of years. ( The rules are changing all the time! ) You could then get a part time job or two, ( depending on available hours ), for your living expenses. The New York area should have lots of choices for varying degrees and either 2 year or 4 year programs. People come from all over the world to go to college in New York, so the choices should be many! Good luck!
Laura asks…
What colleges/universities could I get into?
I’m currently a rising junior and am interested in finding new schools to check out and my chances of being accepted into the following schools:
University of Chicago (top choice!)
University of Wisconsin–Madison
College of William and Mary
New York University
Vassar College
University of Illinois– Urbana-Champaign
I currently have a 4.0 unweighted since my school does not weigh grades; I believe that my average is a 96.
My PLAN test score was a 28 out of 32, and I definitely plan on getting a 30+ score on the ACT.
My school only offers honors courses in English and math, although they have been unfairly adding honors science courses the year after I am eligible to take them! I’ve taken honors courses in English for the past two years and in math for sophomore year. My schedule for next year includes honors English, honors pre-calc, modern lit, British lit, spanish III, chemistry, and economics.
My school unfortunately does not offer any AP courses to juniors, excluding BC calculus, which I cannot take this year. However, I plan on taking advantage of 3 out of the 5 that I could possibly take: English, U.S. Government, and BC Calculus.
For the past two years, I have taken summer college-level courses at a local community college. Last summer, I took Intro to Psychology and had a 4.0 GPA. This summer, I took American History before 1865 and American History since 1865. I will receive my grades next week and am definitely expecting either a 3.9 or 4.0 for each class. If I am not accepted into TASP next summer, I plan on taking Intro to Sociology and another course that I have not decided on.
Next year, I will be VP of Key Club and editor of the school yearbook. I will also be in Student Council on various committees to organize school events, Art Club, National Honor Society (by the end of January, that is), Student Ambassadors, and I may start a Harry Potter club with a friend.
I also might run for a class office for my senior year, most likely VP or treasurer.
I currently have a decent amount of volunteering experience, and my main goal is to have 100 hours by the time I start filling out applications. I regularly volunteer at the public library; I help a little boy with his phonics and may start doing stock later in the year.
I currently do not have a job due to our lovely economy, but I’m looking! If I do not find a job, I plan on taking a permanent position at the library for youth volunteering with no pay.
So.. that’s it!
If you guys could mention some schools that are nice matches for me and my chances at the schools listed above, that’d be great. Thanks!
Oh, and I live in the ‘burbs of Chicago and am eligible for in-state tuition at Madison since my dad lives there.
Mikey answers:
You’re have to pay out-of-state tuition for University of Wisconsin–Madison. Schools require that you be a resident of that state to pay in-state tuition. This generally means you have lived there for 12 consecutive months before the start of the academic year. Living with your relatives or whatever you plan on doing won’t count. Your best bet is to move, stay a year, and then become a resident.
You have a great shot at all of the colleges mentioned. University of Chicago is the hardest of all to get into. You need above 30 ACT.
Helen asks…
Should I have stayed or was good to leave?
Ok i was dating this girl last year during the summer. Me and her got along very well. We ended up having problems. I slept with someone else…we were dating for 2 months at the time. After that… things got worst between us. Not to mention i was struggling on my own because I had just lost one of my jobs. And this job was the one that was paying for the majority of my bills. Finding work and dealing with this relationship was very hard. I had just gotten out of a year and a half relationship before. So I was still dealing with that too. But I wanted to be with her. being with her felt amazing. We had an amzing connection. But I just didn’t want to live in New York anymore. I had no support in new york accept for a friend of my mothers. Really i had no one except for my girlfriend and she was still upset about me cheating…at this point she was giving me a second chance. I realized i had to leave because i was dealing with too much. And because of this stress along with smoking pot i became delusional and almost psychotic. I felt like i was going crazy i had no idea what was happening to me! So I decided to live with my mom for a while and recover. Do you think this was the right thing to do…? to leave new york all together or should I have stayed and “toughed it out”? She doesn’t want to talk to me anymore because I left. She even “defriended” me from myspace and facebook lol. I miss her! and i do want to see her.
Mikey answers:
The only choice you have is to get your own “poop in a pile” and accept responsibility for your actions. Don’t you think the cheating and other behavior affected her?
If I were you, I’d try to understand why she has avoided you.
Leave her alone, and rebuild your own life.
John asks…
Can McDonald’s check my previous job history even though I didn’t disclose it?
I’m 17. I got hired by McDonald’s. When my manager was interviewing me, she asked whether I had any previous job experience or not. I replied “no,” because although I had some previous job experience doing clerical work, I had no experience in fast food businesses. My very first job was in the New York City Summer Youth Program (government-funded). Would she be able to run a background check on me and find out that I have worked before? If she does, can I lose my job for dishonesty?
Mikey answers:
They ask for a job history to see how much responsibility you may have had it doesn’t have to be fast food the clerical experience could help you with a lead position.
P.s. I doubt they’ll bring it up but if so just tell them you were referring to fast food.
Thomas asks…
Where is the cheapest apartment for rent near Ft. Drum?
I have been assigned to Ft. Drum post BOLC and will be attending Ranger school this summer before arriving in New York. My girlfriend and I are moving in together and are trying to find an apartment as close to Ft. Drum as possible that we can afford on BAH and only my income until she starts her job in New York. I’m looking for a place with a short drive as I am not as experienced with driving on snow as I should be. Has anyone been stationed there and would recommend a place for a young couple just starting out?
Mikey answers:
What you should do is register on http://www.ahrn.com and look for an apartment on there. I used it to find a place to stay on it for my recent PCS to Fort Riley and it can help find some good places that are already approved by the local housing office. One thing you should remember is the cheaper the rent is, the less quality you should expect.
David asks…
What should I do? High school or college?
Okay so I moved from New York to Florida last summer with my parents. Here in Florida I was placed in a early college program and I met some friends but I miss my hometown in NY still. I have the opportunity to moved back to NY to do my senior year next year. I would have to go back to high school instead of college, but I would be able to have fun and be a kid. I am only 16 and in full time college already. Also here in FL I cannot find a part time job and in NY I am more than 100% sure I would be able to. What should I do?
Mikey answers:
You should never put anyone or anything about your own education.
Ken asks…
Is my older sister being a selfish brat or am I just not understanding her?
So, earlier this year, I moved up north to Pennsylvania with my sister and my brother-in-law. They came down to Texas for Christmas and we drove up north in my parent’s car. I moved up north so I could establish myself close to New York. I wasn’t finding a decent job with my degree down in South Texas and I had written a script. I thought I could make it happen if I were close to New York.
So, to make a long story short, in my 2.5 month stay in Pennsylvania, I applied to 100+ jobs and got two interviews. I didn’t get more calls until I moved back to Texas. Anyway, while I was there, my brother-in-law and my sister got fed up with my presence there. I overheard a number of his complaints about me. I couldn’t even turn around to look in his direction because he thought I was looking at him. He had said beforehand that he “didn’t give a f**k what I did” during my stay with them. I wasn’t thinking of staying long term with them, only until I got a job and became somewhat established. But he started to ask me what I did with my time. They both knew I had been looking for jobs and working on my script before I went to New York to give it to an established actress who has a bar. He didn’t like me being there in his house all day.
One morning, he began screaming at my sister. They were downstairs in the kitchen and I was upstairs in their guest bedroom. He was screaming because cardboard boxes had been thrown in the recycling bin and cardboard is not recyclable. I had just placed one box there because I had seen the rest there and thought they were putting them there for the time being. I placed the box there because I had previously been asking before I did things and both had gotten annoyed and my sister would tell me to “make an executive decision.” So, I thought let me place the box there and not ask my sister so she won’t get annoyed. So, I went downstairs and took blame for all of the boxes. Afterward, my sister asks me why I had done that and I told her that I had placed the box on the top and that the rest were already there. She then said she probably had placed them there.
So, fast forward a few days later, she goes into the room where I was staying and sees that the ceiling fan was on and gave me crap about it and for throwing all the boxes in the recycling bin and how I never listened, knowing I fall asleep with the fan on. I then got mad and told her that my younger sister had to change to adapt to her environment. My younger sister had stayed with for an entire summer and told me of all their peculiarities, but I thought she was just exaggerating. What I really meant to say was that I couldn’t blame my younger sister for not making an effort to get along with my older sister. I was also making a reference to something she had said which I thought was messed up. She had left her dogs with my brother-in-law’s brother while they were in Texas for Christmas and blamed him and his girlfriend for her dog’s recent change in behavior. I thought it was messed up because he had done my sister the favor of taking care of the dogs while they were away.
The morning I decided to leave, my brother-in-law had indirectly said how I was allowed to “just be.” So, I called my parents and told them I was ready to leave. My sister didn’t think it was fair that my parents were flying up to drive down with me because she had driven down last June to Texas (she says it was “exclusively to visit us” even though she came unannounced and my brother-in-law had a training in Waco and he drove down to South Texas on his days off and she visited her friend). I had never traveled cross country before. My sister had. And when she came, she was in the middle of moving and she came with her dog. She wanted me to go drive alone because she had.
But she’s always been like that. She has been mad because my younger sister got a quinceanera party and she just got a small get together. But when she turned 15, we didn’t have the means to make a big party. My parents had thrown my older sister a nice wedding, but she says that a wedding and a quinceanera are not the same thing.
She would always give us crap about our expenditures, but when money has been given to her, she hasn’t objected much.
Thanks
Mikey answers:
It sounds like you were in the same situation that I’m in with my parents right now- you overstayed your welcome and were butting heads. Most adult family members just don’t mix well and can only get along for a certain amount of time. I’m 28 years old and went through an awful divorce about a year and a half ago. I was stuck with $7000 of debt from the divorce and since I barely make any money with my college degree, I have been stuck living under my parent’s roof. It has gotten to the ponit where we barely ever talk, and get into arguments over silly things like who ate my yogurt, or why I drank “half the orange juice.”
It’s not the boxes that caused the problems, or the fan or any small thing like that. It just sounds like your brother-n-law didn’t like having someone else in their space and that your sister took his side b/c he is her husband.
And with all the jealousy about your other sister getting a quinceanera party and she didn’t (even though she got a really nice wedding), yes, that is just her being unhappy and jealous. One of my sisters is this EXACT SAME WAY. It’s just a personality type- some people are unhappy in their own life, and so they take it out on others and cannot be happy for anyone else.
I think you made the right decision by going back home. I know it’s not ideal for you, but like I keep telling myself, at least my parents will let me stay with them while I try to get on my own two feet. The best thing you can do now, in my opinion, is to get any job, even if it isn’t really what you want to do, and save up until you are able to start a new life closer to New York. It sucks getting there, but if you work hard then time will fly and you’ll be able to get out on your own soon
I have been messing things up for my older sister BIG STYLE. How do i say i am sorry?
I know that this is bad to say but i have been really mean to my sister for a while now ever since she left uni to be honest. See she went straight into the most amazing job in fashion and moved to New york into a great roof top flat. She travels all over the place for her job and also travels most of the summer around mainly Europe with her boyfriend as he works for a race team. They have perfect lives and are nice people.
I dunno why i do it but when ever they come over or stay for a while i just have to be mean. I usually only did things like hid her top, or moved his phone, or hid their passports when they were about to go back where ever, i also once threw all of her work away so she had to redo it all. However this time i took it too far. I have always had a bit of a thing for her boyfriend, it was all one way. I found out that they were taking us all to Itay tomorrow morning for a party on Wednesday to tell us that they are engaged. I kinda was a little upset by this and got one of my guy friends to call him up and tell him that she had been cheating on him. My friend did and they had a really big row and have now called off the wedding. My sister has been crying all day and has tried to call him and he isn’t answering. He has left our house and is at a hotel down the road. She has cancelled the Italy trip and they lost £2000. He is still leaving for Italy tomorrow as loads of his family from America are coming. I feel really bad. I have messed it up from them and feel really guilty.
I want to tell her sorry and put things right but i dunno how…she will kill me…
Ruth asks…
My parents kicked me out?
My entire life my parents haven’t given crap about me. I’ve pretty much been a latchkey child that her parents know nothing about. I recently turned 18 and I’m graduating the first week of May. For the last 4 years I have dated my best friend on and off of 12 years. My parents had no clue. They thought we were friends.
Fast forward four years, we are both graduating and heading to NYU in the fall. We plan on living together. My parents didn’t know, but he lives with his older brother and he did.
His brother was out of town on the night of my 18th birthday and I thought he was too, but long story short he drove down the two hours to my house and picked me up to surprise me. We spent the night at his apartment and celebrated my birthday together. We didn’t “do” anything, we just hung out and snuggled.
But my parents found out later on. These are the parents who abused me for years. They flipped out and were livid. When I told them about my plans for college they got more angry and told me that I couldn’t go. They told me I had to choose between my boyfriend or my family. I chose my boyfriend. And they kicked me out.
I don’t understand. I’m a good kid. I take care of my siblings, I have a good job, I make straight A‘s in almost every subject and I haven’t gotten into that much trouble at all this year. I don’t know what I did wrong. I’ve always been the freak/odd one of the family and everyone resents me. Over the summer we moved from the big city to a small town two miles away. I had to switch schools during my senior year and it sucked alot.
Long story short, I packed up what things that I needed and hitch-hiked to my bf’s house and he offered to let me stay with him and his older brother, but I’m not sure if I like the idea of living with his older brother. I mean his older brother’s girlfriends lives with him too. Wwyd?
I’m not sure and I’m confused. It’s only a few months till graduation and we were planning on moving to New York during the summer and getting an apartment. I’m just upset. Should I transfer back to my old high school and stick it out at my boyfriends place till may???? Or should I go live with my grandmother? My parents won’t let me back.
Mikey answers:
They say you can’t go to college. They also say pick him or family. You did well for yourself through high school and ARE going to college. They have problems not you. So just tell them about your successes you’ve had and tell them the things you are proud of and tell them you have the free will and the brain to make your own life how you want it as everyone should be able to do and you’ll talk to them again when they are ready and willing to accept you.
Make your decision from there but make sure you’re around loving accepting people.
Chris asks…
Does anyone know of a good North American volunteer opportunity for three weeks in August?
I’m a 3rd-year university student (graduate in 1 year!) on summer holiday, and, despite my best efforts, it seems quite likely that I might actually go the whole summer without finding a job. So, rather than having this whole summer be a waste, I’m thinking of taking a course in July, and volunteering somewhere in August. I have volunteered abroad before, and while I would love to do that again, I need to go somewhere closer (due to financial concerns), but I also want to go somewhere interesting.
Basically, I’m looking for somewhere on the Eastern half of North America (I live in Montreal, QC), which could use a volunteer for three weeks (becuase that’s all I’d have), and which wouldn’t cost me a lot of money (ideally, accomodation would be provided/subsidised). I would also prefer to go somewhere more interesting: for example, New Orleans instead of New York, or Kansas instead of Michigan, or Nunavut instead of Ontario. Thanks for your help!
I plan to get my bachelors in animation. ?
I’m applying to schools. What kind of computer should I get? Where can I find a job, internships? What colleges are good for animation in the New York/tristate area? Any advice about the field, and things I will need in order to get through college will be highly appreciated. Books to help me study in the summer. Portfolio building advice.
Mikey answers:
Well… My brother is a 4th year animation student but we are in canada so I’ll try to help you as much as I can.
For a computer, you definitely need a laptop, also having a desktop is a bonus. You need a big Wacom tablet, not those small Bamboo tablets.
If you can, It’s good to get a laptop computer with a touch screen function where you can just use your stylus to draw on the screen instead of using the tablet (which is very difficult).
My brother was able to get into an animation company as a co-op student, not an intership. I think that unless you are a really good animator/artists, not many companies will hire undergraduates. But during co-op, you can still earn money. My brother applied to studios near him which did a show called “storm hawks” by Nerd Corps
or like Udon Entertainment studios, but I think that is not the biggest concern for someone getting into the 1st year of animation.
For advice, you are going to spend hours and hours doing projects (most likely)
My brother didn’t sleep for 3 days straight (>.< crazy) because of his works. Unless you are a crazy gifted person with super drawing abilities and drawing senses, you are going to need to practice like mad, unless you've been drawing since like 8.
My brother uses books like "Animal Essence" by Joe Weatherly and many Disney Art books that shows you the storyboards and character designs (like for Mulan of Pinocchio)
For portfolio, I suggest that you should always put in your work only.
Although colleges take you in just by the result of your work (because they don't really seem to care about who drew it because all they want is you money) if you don't have the basics to get accepted with your skills alone, then you are going to struggle during your college years.
I also think you should put varieties of art work, like water colouring, temperature difference themes (like blue for cold and read for warmth) or something like that, life drawing and so on…
I'm not too knowledgeable but I tried ^__^;;
hope it helped
Has anybody been in this situation…what can i do?
I dont really like asking questions on Y!A but im in a situatuion an I have no clue what to do!
I am currently 24 weeks pregnant it was unplanned and for the time being i am living at home. I knew from the moment i found out that i was expecting i would have to leave but i didnt plan on doing so until Mid-August because my house isnt an ideal location to raise a child for the following reasons:
1. i havent gotton along with my parents for years now.. we have no respect for one another wats so ever
2. My parents wanted me gone pre pregnancy and i knew they wouldnt want me here with a child since they have started realizing my growing belly they have thrown constant insults my way and are tying to make this the worst experience ever…while i keep up a tough exterior and pretend that it doesnt bother me the least bit and ialso choose to focus on my studies and spend a great portion of the day taking extra courses during the summer so i dont fall behind in earning my degree… this really takes a toll on me and i break down from time to time n just cry
3.Lastly i have an older sister that i always get into fights with, seriously we are the modern day Cain n Abel, while i dont really care much for her she hates my guts and would seriously murder me if she had the chance to
Sorry for the long prelude here is the actual situation… like i mentioned b4 my sister constintly picks fights with me since i got pregnant i have tried to remain the bigger person even though she is 8 yrs OLDER then me and just walk away when i felt things would get physical.. its gotten to the point where i have actually smash up my laptop instead of knock her out (which was very hard to do) but tonite just like 2 hrs ago she took something of mine and wen i got it back in my possesion i guess she got so mad i got it back so quickly that she absolutly lost control and started hiting punching kicking and scratching me… i was in a complete state of shock while this was happening and didnt even raise an hand to defend myself and everyone around me was too nobody ever thought she would try n fight me while i was pregnant… my dad who cant stand me had to restrain her and pry her off of me even then she got a last kick in there
(let me clafiy now .. to avoid confusion she didnt hit my belly i am fine luckily nothing happened but the last kick she got in there was dangerously close it was to the lower crotch area and hit my pelvic bone)
when i saw the scratches on my facei got so angry and i called the cops… and got a domestic volance report filled out against her… was this wrong? dont i have the right to be upset… i dont want to play the victim i hate wen people have pity on me.. but wat did i do that was so horrible but take something that belonged to me.. did i deserve this beat down especially wen i am carrying my baby?
my final question is how do i get out of here i really want to leave by the weekend.. im not even worried about myself my only concern is my childs safty.. i feel like i have nothin i can do… goin to live with family is not option.. i live in NYC and i have no relatives close by .. the father is around he is working hard to provide for us but this is too short notice.. i was tryin to plan a head and apply for a larger student loan for the fall that way i can pay for an apatment for a year but that plan has fallen through it is only approved for 2300 dollars.. i am depressd and feel like a total failure for counting my chickens before they hatched and puttin all my hope into a student loans.. i dont have a job… i applied to job after job after job and never get a response so… being that i am pregnant living in new york city with no job where can i go and what can i do?
please no negative comments i am very upset and sad that i am even in this situation. i feel even worse every time i feel my son kick… i shouldnt put myself in childish arguments and i wasnt resposible enough to plan ahead and leave my house as i was so focused on school the whole spring semseter
thats everyone for all the advice… it really helped alot.. im really not the type of person to et ppl in on my problems and this was really hard for me but i appreciate all the info in guess i was so mad and hot headed i didnt even think to research but i think i have things somewhat under control now
Mikey answers:
I would have filed a report to if for any reason she is violent and you are pregnant and you can’t be sure if she will continue to be this way after your baby is born. I commend you for staying in school and taking extra courses to speed up the process of getting your degree.yes you did count your chickens before they hatched but then when haven’t we all at one time or another.look at it this way that is loan money you will not have to repay because you didn’t get it.I do agree with you that you must get out of there as soon as possible because of your sister and her behavior. That was a close call tonight.is it possible to live with the father or one of his relatives?if not then I suggest going to a shelter for battered women and victims of domestic abuse.you may have to go on public assistance until you can get a job but as long as you are pregnant I don’t see you getting hired anywhere. They will more than likely put you to work in something like a food pantry or tutoring as you are a college student in exchange for your assistance.the bottom line is keeping yourself safe and your baby safe and it doesn’t sound safe or healthy where you are living.sometimes as moms we have to do things we don’t like. Look at it as a hand up not a hand out you won’t have to do it for long because you are going to finish college[and as a mom and a tax paying citizen of ny state if you don't finish I will be very disappointed in you young lady] right now you need to breathe calm down and relax. If for any reason for the health of your son.you are trying and that’s all anybody can do and I think you’ve held it together pretty good so far.as far as crying goes well you’re pregnant you’re supposed to cry. I used to cry at cat food commercials.it’s normal.seeing as you are comparing yourself and sister to cain and abel how about naming your son seth[God gave eve seth to heal her broken heart].maybe this baby will in time be healing to your family.get some sleep lovey things will be better in the morning and you and that baby need some rest after playing smackdown with his aunt. Keep us posted and keep your chin up you can do this.hugs
wat do u think i purposly put myself in this situation knowing that my house and family was unhealthy and that i am a full time undergrad student with no time to work… WRONG i didnt aspire to be a teen mother.. i hoped to earn a degree and go on to law school and laugh at my parents (who are educated and very well off by the way) for saying i will never do anything good!
Mikey answers:
First of all – take a deep breath. In and then out.
I was a teen mom, and it can be very hard. You also have the pressure of a rotten family, and I’m sorry for that. We don’t get to pick them, but we can pick our future family.
There are millions of options for young moms. One, being a shelter. Now don’t think I mean a cot on the floor, I mean your very own apartment shelter. The state can set you up with your own place for up to three months. Plus, they can help get you food and state benefits (don’t EVER be afraid to ask for state help, there is no shame in taking care of your family). The shelter can also help you find a cheap low income place to live. They have new ones being built these days, not old dirty apartments like they used to have.
Do they have a Hope link in NY? Google it online. Call the number and tell them you are pregnant and homeless. Someone will be able to help you, or should.
Other places that might be able to help are the YWCA, DSHS, and Church’s in your area. You have to do some online Research.
One more thing, it WILL be okay. I have been there, and it’s tough, but I made it through. I was able to get set up with a fully paid apartment, the state helped pay for food and everything while I finished school. School and your baby are the most important thing now!
If your boyfriend/father of the baby can’t help you right now, then maybe he shouldn’t have gotten you pregnant. I would tell him you need to stay with him for a few days till you figure things out. That baby is his too, and he needs to help you.
I wish you all the luck in the world. Look for resources. I know you can do it!
Have you been seeing a doctor? Go to a public health and get looked at. You need to be also taking prenatal vitamins.
Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job In New York
Richard asks…
Question about child custody hearing?
Hello, I have a question about a child custody hearing.
My sister has two boys, 7 and 4 that lived with her primarily until last summer, my sister and our family live in Maine. My nephews go see their dad in the summer, who lives in New York, and then come home after to live again with my sister full time. Well over the summer my sister ended up losing her job and then her apartment so asked my nephews father to keep the boys for a while longer until she could get back on her feet,and he agreed. My sister finally found a job last month, which is almost a year the boys have been living with there dad, and is living in a one bedroom apartment with a friend of the family and is working towards getting her car back and her own place. She received court papers the other day stating that the boys father was going for custody! There was never custody appointed before as my nephews father moved to new York when they broke up and they were never married. Well the hearing is set to be in new York and my sister can’t make it there due to money, no car and can not afford to take a few days off from work. I was wondering if there is any way that she could go about having the hearing changed to a Maine court house? and what, if any, are her options are .
Thank you in advance for your help.
She has not been paying child support as she was just employed last month, but as far as i know she has not since she began working. is there any way to have the hearing moved to Maine though? because if she can not make it to New York then it would be very bad for her yes?
Mikey answers:
The state the child lives in has jurisduction, that cannot be changed. She needs to call the court house and tell them she cannot make it, they MIGHT post pone it to give her more time to get their. Do not let her just not show up though with out saying anything, that will be the worst thing she could do. Feel free to message me for more questions about the subject.
Sandra asks…
what should i do with this situation with my ex, please help very long read.?
I was dating this girl for 4 years we go to the same church and share the same faith and we were happy through those four years but definitly had very rough times that it tested our relationship and even broke us up a couple times but eventually worked through them. About 7months ago she started to distance herself and i later found out it was because she was talking to someone else and was basically with him, she was even calling him the pet names she called me, i found this out a week before we and her broke up. We didnt break up over that though, she didnt exactly give me a reason why. when i found out i tried to confront her about it but she didnt reply to me. the week after i found out, she went to delaware to visit her mom for the summer. i went to new york for the summer, celebrated my 21st bday, didnt forget about her but some feelings were still there. on my birthday she texts me wishing me a good bday. she texted me from her ipod # which i didnt kno, she didnt want to tell me it was her but later found out and we started talking again. we continued talking, she told me she had realized wat she lost etc. she was still with the guy i found out about and she told me how much like crap he treats her. she try to explain to me that she hooked up with him a week after we broke up, but that she wasnt with him while we were together (which i doubt) but was still talking to him and flirting with him. so she broke up with him and told me she was gonna try and win me back no matter what it takes. so thats wat she has been trying to do the past 5 months. i enjoyed it because i felt like she was really trying, but i had a guard up and i would not let her know anything about how i felt so she would get sad. even though i was truly building somethin up for her again. during this time we did have sex a couple times (we lost it to eachother 3 years back) i would keep my emotions about it bottled up and she wouldnt and would start crying afterwards. then one day, about 2 weeks ago we were texting normal and all of a sudden didnt hear from her till i called at 1AM. she told me she was at a theme park for a halloween event and she was with her friends, she didnt talk to me like she normal, like i was an anybody. i got mad cuz i felt like she jus remembers me when she bored at her house but i didnt let her know and hung up she later called when she got home and it was 3 in the morning but didnt pick up because i didnt want to start any type of arguement. i didnt hear from her for the next 4 days, on the fith day i called her and asked why she hasnt called and she said it was because she was mad at me for gettin mad for her going out with her friends and we hung up for the night. i decided to visit her at her job the next day and she explained to me that the following saturday that we didnt talk, she went out to a for the first time to a club with her friends and didnt get to her friends house till 6 in the morning. i got mad because i believe if ur trying to get with someone and be serious about them then u dont go to places like that and also cuz of our faith we shouldnt go, she also did it behind her folks back by sayin she was gonna sleep over a friends house and thats not right i think. she got mad by my way of thinking and said i was tryin to control her when to me it was about respect, cuz even though she was tryin to get with me i respected her by not talking to other girls that way and especially not go to clubs. she then basically told me she was going to keep doing whatever she wants until i make her my GF. before all this happen she was all about “i consider myself taken by u cuz i kno we gonna be together” then she was all about “im single i do wat i want”. and i have no problem with that but if she was tryin to win me over then thats certainly not the way to do it especially after our history. well this caused a huge problem, it them became about “ur tryin to control me” when thats not wat im tryin to do. so we tried talking and she was telling me how much she wants to be with me and loves me and cares about me and thinks we can be happy BUT she then says for me to jus move on and her reason is because she wants me to be happy and cuz of my folks not liking her (my folks never liked her especially now). she hung up on me and didnt want to answer me anymore. i still have feelings for her and let her know but she tells me the same thing and she told her stepmom the same as well. now i talked to her once and she told me she changed her number cuz of me and shes starting new and still feels the same way that she wants to be with me but shes scared of things going back to problems but i told her if we work at it its not going to. and that all she does is think of me and wants to be with me but to move on cuz she feels it wont work but she doesnt try and i havent talked to her since. im so confused on wats real and wat to do. i do have feelings for and I feel that she does have fe
Mikey answers:
OK I read everything ! Wth man, like, she is this type of controling girls who I hate the most. Going to clubs and not telling you while you both were considered together IS BAD ! Not calling for you for 5 days and play hard to get is BAD too. I would totally ignore her like seriously. And you felt that she was lying when she told u that she wasn’t talking to the guy while dating you. I’m sorry but I don’t respect these girls. She isn’t the last girl in the world. I know you share the same faith and everything but you still can find better one since she doesn’t even stick to her faith. I don’t think her faith includes going to clubs and stuff like that. Stop asking her to be together again, she should be grateful that a man like you is caring for her. I guess she will go through a hard time being with many stupid guys who wants to get into her pants all the time. Just IGNORE HER trust me, your folks know better because you tell them more stuff and they are around you most of the time and know her. They hated her for a reason. They will help you to forget about her. Don’t waste your time with someone who is considered a cheater. I believe she is. Get over her unless she begs you so hard and comes back to you crying. She is looking after herself the whole story. Maybe you gave me the bad side about her but that’s what I saw from your story. TAKE CARE man and good luck
what is the age you can runaway?
My friend and I are running away next summer on her 16th birthday, and i’ll be 17. we’re going to buy my mom a plane ticket from New York to North Carolina and she will be living with us. We have jobs, money, our license and we’re going to buy an apartment; so that isn’t an issue with us. However, if our parents call the police to find us, what will be the end result? Would we be able to stay living in the apartment with my mom, or would they make us go back to our homes? All the answers are greatly appreciated!
Mary asks…
Is Massie, from the “Clique” book series, SUPPOSED to be a horrendous, shallow little “b-word”?
My little sister needed supervision to go to her kid’s book club the other day, and while they discussed Artemis Fowl, I sat a few rows away and picked up something from the pile of books left there to soothe my boredom. This book had a very fashionable brunette girl on the cover, I’d say thirteen or fourteen years old. I read it because everything else in the pile was “Dr. Seuss” or “Let’s Learn the Alphabet
” stuff.
The book opens with Massie and her pals getting ready for a horse ocmpetition. She disses her teammate Selma apparently because her name is unattractive. Then she glues Selma to her horse’s seat with glue to make sure she doesn’t fall off and make their team lose, and then she blames her friends when this is discovered by a bunch of reporters and judges. She’s expelled from the stables and has to go home to her New York mansion where her parents are disappointed that she resorted to cheating and she doesn’t really get why. Massie then makes her goal to spend the summer tanning and finding new friends who are actually categorized by people she’ll spend the summer with, one day with, or just totally ignore (no friends beyond summer, FYI.) She steals her mother’s bikini and spends time tanning until her parents cancel her credit cards (PLURAL!) and tell her to get a job. She tans until she realizes she has one day to get a job, and would rather get one she doesn’t hate, and asks her hispanic maid (who is doing Massie’s nails) if she likes her job.
Okay. I’m a nice person. But I want to punch this girl in the face. Or shave her head. Something that would make her CRY and cry HARD.
And then I wondered, okay, she’s a shallow, horrible little bitch. But this book says “bestselling” on the top. So. So…some people LIKE to read the adventures of Massie? They like this awful brat who cheats, blames others, judges herself on the number of outfits she can put on in a day, apparently has no friends beyond the ones she tacks down for one summer, runs her credit cards dry, and can do all this easily before getting in EIGHTH GRADE?
i am sorry, but WHAT THE FUCK. Somebody explain.
Mikey answers:
Yes, Massie is a little brat. I only read about the first 6 books or so in the series, and have not read the one you are talking about. However, when I was younger and read the books, I honestly found them to be fun. Hey were just mindless entertainment. And, really, nobody in the book even likes Massie. While everybody looks up to her because she is rich and powerful, I do not think her friends even actually like her. I do not think the books are realistic, although I am not rich enough to know, but there is just something fun about them. Massie is mostly just a character who people love to hate.
David asks…
Is it hard to get from Newark to Manhattan?
I’m moving to New York for the summer with a few friends and we are still in the process of finding weekday/part time jobs and accommodation. Some of my friends have gotten jobs near Newark and want us to live there accordingly.
My question is how easy would it be to get to Manhattan from Newark? I see there is the NJ Transit train but I couldn’t pinpoint a solution. Does this train run directly to Manhattan? Is it cheap? Does it take a long time? What time does it stop running?
I would like to be able to get to Manhattan and other places with ease if possible and we’d want a way to get home late at night on weekends.
Any information would be greatly appreciated
Mikey answers:
It would be relatively cheap and easy. The PATH runs 24/7 and takes you to Lower Manhattan in 25 minutes from Newark Penn Station for $2. The NJT train runs until around 2AM and costs $5 to reach Midtown, and there’s also buses to the Port Authority for $5.50.
There are also monthly discounts available for these services.
I hope this information was very helpful.
I live in New Orleans, and I got into St.Johns college in new york, which is really good, but i don’t have enough money to go (Even though I will go maybe in 2013)..Nobody has talked about me leaving yet, ive been here for month. I don’t know them that well, they only took me in because I was a charity case:/. Also i have a two year old son, but he stays with his mother, and her family…me and her family don’t get along, the last time time i saw my son was three months ago..so i cant stay with them. Ruth asks…
Should I try to get my driver’s license next month for jobs or save up a little & wait until May?
I receive SSI & Social Security. I’m 25 with a BA in Spanish/Liberal Arts, but still not fluent (working on it) because all they taught was ancient literature, & I didn’t find out until AFTER I graduated college, that a BA in Spanish, emphasizing on literature wouldn’t get me fluent, & the only career in that field is to teach it, which I don’t want to do.
I want my long-term career to be a translator. Right now, I’m trying to focus on improving my Spanish skills & computer skills, since those will be the things I need to take the test to try to get into the NYU continuing ed program & get a translation certificate, taking the course online. The program is like $595 per course, per semester, I think. I admit that the test is really hard. I’m not as fluent as I thought I was, & my mental illness is preventing me from concentrating & focusing, studying independently @ home.
I live in TX. Even though I have a degree, I don’t have much work experience. I need to work full-time to pay my student loans off. If I work under 30 hrs. a week, I don’t have to pay them back. There are certain work incentives through the SSA program, where I can work & still keep my benefits.
I don’t have a car. I HAD a car, but because of financially struggling with Hurricane Katrina aftermath, I was struggling financially & been struggling ever since. No one wants to hire me because employers assume that I look mentally retarded. People think I’m retarded, but I’m not.
I HAD a VALID driver’s license, but I had a household crisis with roommates in New York (long story), & my brother sent for me to come down here. I don’t have a bad driving record. They said here in Texas, new residents have to take the test ALL over again. I passed the written part, but I just need to take the driving part. Almost ALL jobs, even minimum wage jobs require you to have an unrestricted license before you get a job. I haven’t driven any kind of vehicle in over a yr.
I have some worries. If I pay $144 for the practice and using the driver’s ed company car to take the test, & she doesn’t think I’m ready for the test, or if I take the road test & fail it, then I will be broke & LITERALLY penniless for the month of April. But whether I pass or fail, I’ll be penniless after paying for the test. & I feel like, what if I don’t get hired for a job in April, even IF I have my license?
Another sticky situation is, they are hiring for Summer & Fall jobs NOW, & tomorrow is the last day for seasonal Summer employment-working with kids with recreation, so that’s out the question because I won’t have my license @ time of job application TOMORROW. They pay $9/hr. & I need a FULL license, even though it’s a non-driving job.
I’m just trying to get anything I can lay my hands on, temporarily while studying to try to become fluent & work on computer skills, so I can save up to take those classes FOR my CAREER-later on. & while I take the courses online, I can continue working & saving up to take the online classes & learn other languages, & apply my translation skills to those. I was highly advised to become fluent in 1 language 1st before moving on to the next, so I won’t get confused. I want to learn more languages, & I also want to write fiction & translate them in other languages, myself, in my future career. & I’d like to travel a LOT!
Sorry, so long, but I really needed this to be detailed so you can understand my situation. So, should I play Russian roulette & take a gamble on next month or stay unemployed without a license for another month, working intensively on my Spanish & combine the April AND May $$ I saved up? What would you do if you were in this predicament?
Mikey answers:
I think you should just stay unemployed for another month, work on your Spanish and combine your money.
Mandy asks…
Have my parents ruined my life?
I’ll do my best to separate fact from opinion.
My mother was a girl from a rich family who ran away from home right after graduation and with her boyfriend, my drop-out father who had entrapped her with dreams of moving to New York and making a killing in the stock market.
Didn’t happen and I spent the first four years of my life living in a dark basement in Queens. My father was an alcoholic, unfaithful and abusive and he didn’t really have a job. However my mother had already given birth to me and my brother in the four years she was married and to get away from my father she ran away to Florida right back to my grandparents (who had recently lost all of their money after 9/11).
My mother had never actually divorced my father though and he was more than willing to chase her on a plane to Florida and I remember him abducting me in kindergarten. Somehow they worked something out where he got custody every other weekend.
My parents have never actually told me about my childhood. I’ve been piecing it together using my Grandmother and Grandfather’s conversations.
My father who is a self-proclaimed “extremist” (i.e. smoking, eating, etc.) joined a church in the following years and quit all of his sinful habits, at least the ones I could see, but he still had a violent temper. Once when I was 7, I got spanked after questioning what my pastor did with all the money the church gave him. I was also yelled at for doing anything normal little kids do. My father became OBSESSED with church. I was forced to go to three services a week whenever I was with him for the summer.
But what my father hated more than anything else in the world was my mother’s fiancee. We’ll call my mom’s fiancee “Dan”. My mom met Dan at my school and ended up engaged. I remember my father forcing me and my brother to pray that something would happen to Dan so that he could get my mother back. When I was at my mother’s place though, I started to even call “Dan” my father. He showed me everything good about the world when I was in middle school, about life. I had never had father-son quality time. If it weren’t for him I wouldn’t know what an actual father is like.
Then my father managed to get a job where he could lay off my mother if he wanted to. It was summer of 2008, right before the recession hit. She went to work one day, and I don’t know what my father did to her, she came back and soon she was sneaking over to his house when I was supposed to be staying over there alone with him. I couldn’t stand the idea that she was cheating on Dan and when Dan found out he had to break off the 5 year engagement, even though we just bought a new house. I never saw Dan again, and I would cry every night for about 2 months. My mom had moved on with my father and my worst nightmare came true.
So I was moved away from my friends right before eighth grade and my father (who aforementioned shelters me because of the Christian thing) and forced me into a private Christian school that they could not afford. I stayed there until they kicked me out in the middle of Sophomore year, 20,000 dollars in debt.
My parents need 20,000 grand to get my grades so I can graduate next year. I have absolutely no friends. No Facebook or anything. My father says it’s for the better. I spend most of my time volunteering at a local megachurch that I HATE secretly. My parents both lost their jobs and we were evicted a year ago. We have a rented place now that my mother can afford on her new job but my Dad still lives with me despite me pleading otherwise. I’ve never had health or dental insurance so I look like your typical poor kid, a little sickly.
By the way I don’t actually talk back to my parents, lest I get hit.
After all of this, my parents want me to work for them when I grow up. In business, which I loathe more than any other major. I’ve been depressed lately and am just thinking of suicide by OD. They say my education has been a privilege and when (if) they get the money for college I’ll spend the rest of my life working for the church. I just sullenly nod my head and hide in my room as usual.
Yeah TL;DR= My parents suck and have put me in a situation where it is mathematically impossible for me to graduate. Am I justified for wanting to kill myself?
Thanks. It’s just right now, I’ve been real down in the gutter.
Mikey answers:
First of all, I’m so sorry for what you have to go through. It’s horrible that you have to live in this type of situation. However, I don’t think you should blame your mother. It seems (from what I have read) that she has been making decisions that she thinks will keep you safe. I think that she feels she must do what your father says, or he will hurt her, or you/ your brother.
That being said, yes you are justified in wanting to kill yourself, but please, PLEASE don’t. Do not kill yourself. It would be a terrible loss to your brother and your mother, who will need you. If I were to give advice, I would say you need to call for help. You need to get your mother, brother, and yourself away from your father. Once you are away, you will be able to think of a way to improve your situation.
Call the police, or someone, tell them of the abuse, the help you need. If you think your father will do something, do it secretly, but tell your brother and mother. You all need to understand that staying there is not good, and what he is doing is not okay. You may feel that if you try to leave, he will come after you, and make things worse. That fear shouldn’t keep you from trying to get away. Once you are protected, your father will not be able to reach you. He will not be able to hurt you.
No matter what you choose to do, I’m so sorry for the life you have been forced to suffer. But don’t feel alone, don’t feel unloved. I really care about you, and your brother. I wish I could help you, but I don’t know any other way than giving advice.
I wish I could talk to you more, give you advice more than just now, I wish we could talk as much as you wanted. Please don’t kill yourself though. You have a life ahead of you to live, one that can be full of the love you want and the happiness you need. All you need to do is go for it.
How can I get a temporary work Visa for the US? (I’m British)
My friend and I are hoping to work in New York for a few months after we graduate. I’ve had a look at Bunac, RealGap etc but they seem to offer summer work and we were hoping to leave in August and stay until around Christmas. Is it possible to get a temporary Visa and just find a job when you arrive in America? We’re both Scottish and will be 22 and have degrees if and when we leave, but we’d be looking for work in restaurants, shops, etc. I’d be really grateful for any help or advice!
Mikey answers:
No, you will not be able to do this. Apart from the summer work programs that you have seen, there are no temporary work visas in the US.
Paul asks…
Isn’t it terrible if a mother fakes a daughter’s death just to get a 2 and a half week vacation abroad?
http://www.funtuna.com/2012/01/nyc-school-worker-faked-daughters-death.html
I know this happened in 2010. The woman was obviously from Costa Rica and she worked as a parent co-ordinator at a New York school…in order to get 2 and a half weeks holiday in Costa Rica she made one of her daughters phone the school and say her sister in Costa Rica was very sick..then she made another daughter phone the school to say the (sister/daugher of the mother) had died and faked a death certificate all for the sake of 2.5 weeks vacation in Costa Rica…and now she lost her job.
Why does someone do that and people who are employed at schools I am sure get more holiday than in some other positions. What must be going on in someone’s mind to come up with such a dramatic lie that is really a minor crime and only to gain a little holiday..well, now she is unemployed and at age 58 what will her chances be to find a new job, with a bad record of having been to court for minor misdemeanor and for having been given the sack…for having lied over something really dramatic…?
Now she has all the time to go on vacation but probably not the money…I don’t understand why people do that.
Seven more years and she would have been able to retire and get a proper pension and she jeopardized all of this for a holiday and using fraud to get it and creating drama?
Did she work for some kind of dictatorship school where no holidays were allowed to staff or was she just really out of her mind..? I am sure in New York everybody is entitled to at least 2 weeks holiday…and someone working at a school probably gets more, because there are all the school holidays and office staff won’t be working then either.
What do you think of something like this?
At least she will always be remembered for having done something outrageous.
I have another question which has a slight connection with this…but only slightly.
My husband says ”celebrities are boring and nobody cares about their lives or wants to know what they did and how they became famous…but he told me a serial killer such as of the calibre as Charles Manson who committed the terrible crimes in the summer of 1969 where amongst many victims Actress Sharon Tate (8 months pregnant at the time) and her friends were all stabbed in the most brutal way and the killing spree continued one day later when more people were butchered but California had abolished the death penalty in 1969 so the Manson gang were never executed but got life imprisonment, Charles Manson is almost 78 years old now..he has been in St Quentin Prison for those murders along with his gang members who under his instructions carried out the foul deeds and my husband said ” Serial killers like that are different, one wants to watch them on TV because their story is interesting..” that makes little sense to me… why is a vicious serial killer who butchered so many young and innocent people to death and and actress and 8 month pregnant woman, and her friends in ther Beverly Hills home and such a guy gets more audience for being notorious than a film star who made an honest career and whose rise to fame might have been a long struggle to the top..but in his mind actors are just a waste of space but a serial killer at least is interesting to see on TV and to watch…At least actors give us entertainment and fun or drama…a serial killer causes a lot of devastation and grief and Charles Manson is one of the serial killers who has no regrets and no remorse..why would my husband deem it more interesting to get to know his story? The story of a demented man and a guy how really after over 40 years still has no regrets and said instead maybe he should have killed 500. ?
Thanks
thank you
Mikey answers:
I would rather visit London England because I live in Toronto and know it well. London has an incredible sense of history. That said Toronto is a great city and you will enjoy it if you do visit. One of the must-visit places that the previous comment does not mention is the Ontario Science Centre – which is great fun. There is a heritage neighbourhood you might want to visit as well. Cabbagetown has one of the largest groupings of genuine Victorian homes outside of England and if you enjoy history there are guided tours and heritage placques in the area.
Robert asks…
Do you consider this stealing or no?
PLEASE READ!!!!!!
My brother is 18 and just moved to New York City to go to acting school. We are from TX and have been to NYC many times so we know how expensive things are there.
Well my brother earned $2,000 over the summer from his job. He has only been in New York for 3 weeks and has managed to spend $1,000 on clothes, food and whatever else. When my parents found out they put the rest of the money in a savings account so he would not spend the rest of it right away. They are not keeping it from him they just put a limit on the amount he can spend in a week. ($100). My brother said that my parents stole from him and are spending him money on themselves which of course is not true at all. My dad does the same with my money and I am very great full for it. I would for sure spend all my money if I had to all at once.
Do you consider this stealing or just good parenting? I mean I see it as good parenting. I am still getting my money every week and if I need more I just ask for it. I don’t see this as stealing because I know how much I stated with and as long as I end up with that amount by the end of school I don’t really care.
My brother is telling our whole family around the country that my dad is stealing from him and spending his money.
I am just wondering what other people think. I know plenty of kids that have the same situation. Their parents give them their money but in an allowance form and they say it works well bc that way they don’t spend it all at once.
I am sorry this is so long and sorry for any typos there might be.
Yea the thing is my brother is a spoiled brat thanks to my grandmother and uncle and does not know the meaning of a dollar at all. I still have money from two weeks ago I have not spent. My brother will blow all his money if he has it.
Thanks guys I plan to do that with my children whenever that may be. I really do think this is the best way to handle money. I am 20 and in college and I would still rather have my money given to me.
Mikey answers:
No, this isn’t stealing. Your brother isn’t as responsible as you are financially.
He’s going to spend it all in one big swoop and then ask to borrow money from you.
However, he is 18 and if he choose to spend his money….then he should. Let him learn the concequences and deal with the harsh time on his own. You can’t bail him out. He has to learn the lesson the hard way.
It’s good parenting on your parent’s action. Don’t get involved.
Mandy asks…
Your comments on the story i’m writing?
I have started with a story. As of now I have done the character sketch of the main characters. Please read and give in your feedback.
Amy:
Amy Newton was born in New York and had stayed with her father in the city forever. Her father, Herbert Newton, a famous businessman was travelling most of the time to different countries because of work. Lucy Newton, her mother had passed away when she was only two. Brought up by nannies and maid’s Amy was closer to them during her initial years of growing up. Yet she respected and loved her father more than anyone in this world. Herbert fulfilled all her desires and wishes… expect one. He was not able to spend “Quality” time with his daughter. Amy had travelled with her father across the world during her summer vacations and had enjoyed those days the most as they brought her closer to her father. She detested when the vacations came to an end.
The Newton’s had a huge mansion in New York. It was an 8 Bedroom, 3 floored house with a swimming pool in the backyard and a garden in the front which was the size of a baseball field. Built by a famous architect from Rome, the house had ethnic and classical touch of the Roman civilization. Paintings from famous artists hung on the carved walls. The Mansion depicted the wealth of Mr. Newton who was a self-made man. Every room had a different theme. There were rare pieces of decorations brought from different parts of the world to enhance the beauty of the mansion. It was the most aesthetic white structure that the city had ever seen. Milky white marble statues found place in the gardens of the house, which were illuminated with bright lights during the night. The place was no less than a fairy tale castle sitting magnificently in the city, praised by all its audience.
Amy was a very beautiful girl. She had the perfect features and perfect body. Long brown hair which were never out of place. It seemed like she never had a bad hair day. Big green eyes which never missed any detail. A smile so warm that it made a dull day bright and shinny. She looked like a ramp model which made boys go all ‘oohh and aahh’ and girls all jealous. A down to earth girl Amy was. Talented and intelligent, she had always been a topper in her school and college. She never mentioned that she was “AMY NEWTON” infront of a crowd, because she wanted to be just Amy. Her father’s name when attached with hers changed things completely. People almost fell to their knees. And she loathed this.
Amy enjoyed being outside her home though. An independent soul, she didn’t like to be dependent on her father. Her father on the other hand did not approve her taking up summer jobs when she was not travelling with him. Peacefully both father and daughter used to discuss this issue.
Now as she was going to be 20, Amy had decided that she will not join her father’s business. Instead she had a different plan sketched up for her life. But Herbert was hell bent for her to join him as soon as possible. She was delaying the option with excuses that made her father angry.
It was her 20th birthday that changed things for Amy.
Mark:
Mark Stevens was a born rebel. His father, Andrew Stevens, was a famous Lawyer of London. His mother, Emily Stevens, was the owner of one of the most expensive boutique in London. Rich and Famous list was not complete if ‘The Stevens’ were not mentioned in it. And Mark never left any opportunity to use his “Status” to get things done. His father did not like it when he misused their family name. A lot of arguments took place between the father and the son on almost daily basis. Emily was the pacemaker. She took time out of her busy schedule to sit with Mark and talk to him. This made Mark closer to his mother. He confided his deepest secrets to her.
In London, the Stevens had a “Palace” in which they lived. It was indeed a palace, which belonged to one of the royalties of the country in the early centuries. Andrew Stevens had bought the property at a very handsome price. Emily had decorated their “Home” in the most beautiful manner. Everything was exquisite, expensive and exotic. A library which was bigger than the town library, an indoor sports area constructed which was well equipped. Both Mark and Andrew enjoyed sports a lot. Andrew was the football team captain when he was in high school. And Mark had led his school team to victory in swimming and basket ball. Their beautiful garden had flowers which were of rare species. The Palace was made of grey brick and stones. A long drive way from the main gate which was huge and made up of wrought iron. Tall and beautiful trees covering the drove way on both sides. A fountain was in the middle of the enormous garden. The palace was included in the most exotic and breath taking palaces of the country.
When Mark was 5, his father wanted him learn how to play tennis but Mark was keener on learning swimming. He felt ‘the water’ belonged to him. Mark had created a big scene
When Mark was 5, his father wanted him learn how to play tennis but Mark was keener on learning swimming. He felt ‘the water’ belonged to him. Mark had created a big scene and finally his father had to agree with Mark and grant him his wish. Usually when there was a conflict between Mark and his father, Mark won. One reason was that Emily supported Mark. She was the only person who understood… or atleast kind of understood her son. “Brat” was what his father called him when he was upset with Mark.
While he was growing up, his father fed into his mind that Mark should become a Lawyer – Just like him – in future. Mark was not fond of this particular career option. He felt he will be overshadowed by his father’s name once he took up law. Though he was a brilliant student and could easily make it big in any of the professions he would have chosen, but being a lawyer was something he had absolutely rejected since childhood.
He did not want to be like his father.
Mark was a handsome boy. He had the looks of a royalty. Bright blue eyes which pierced easily through anybody’s soul, Pearly white skin with a face and body which belonged to only Greek gods. He was every girl’s dream come true. He was in reach of every soul around him, yet so far. He was a kind of person who understood the situation well and manipulated it according to his benefits. His mind worked in a manner which nobody could ever understand. Not a predictable person Mark was but he could easily predict others.
He had already planned his future and was quiet determined on going against his father’s wishes. He knew his mother would support him, like she always had. He also knew that when he would tell his father about his plans, his father would throw a fit around the house which would be extremely difficult to handle. But Mark was ready for all that.
yeah…but i cant live with them forever…and they can only keep me for a month or two…nobody wants a bum leaving in thier house for free-_-
Mikey answers:
You should do a little research into your state law. I don’t know if this is true in all states, but in Texas if you are in foster care, you are considered a “ward of the state” and you get free tuition to college. If that is true in Louisiana too, apply to every college you can. Worst case scenario, you may have to go to community college for a year or two to get your grades up before you transfer to a university.
Also, some cities have rehabilitation centers for kids who were in foster care so they have a place to live. Usually those are rent free, for 18-21 year olds, and have requirements that you have a job or are enrolled in college.
