Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job

George asks…

How can a teenager find a summer job?

Okay, I am 17 years old (turning 18 in one month) and I am about to graduate high school. I did very well in high school (AP courses, etc) and will be attending the best university in the state. I am definitely a smart, hard-working person but I am having a huge problem finding a job.

My only real job experience is 6 months at a clothing store. I also have been babysitting for 5 years and had a short junior camp counselor position last summer.

I am not picky at all, I just want is a minimum wage job but I am having a lot of difficulty. I have applied to about 30 jobs so far. I applied to all kinds of positions that require little or no experience: camp counselor, coffee barista, pet store associate, doctor’s assistant, waitress, etc.

Advice PLEASE? I am desperate for a job right now. It would be a lot easier if I was already 18 I think.

Mikey answers:

The economy is tough and no being 18 wouldn’t help you a whole lot. I am 21 and have been unemployed for the past 2 years I just found a job this past week that interviewed and hired me. It’s really hard out there. If you don’t find a job by the end of may I would consider doing some volunteer work at a local shelter at least then you would have something to do this summer. Good luck

Mark asks…

Where can I find a Summer Job?

I am only 15 years old. It need to be in Chicago and within 5 miles of the 60639 zip code area.

Mikey answers:

Your zipcode doesn’t help.

But, try your local park district.
They always hire in the summer.

How can I find a summer job im 14?

im a bit shy and i rollerskate, but i’m not sure how to go about offering lessons. If there are any other jobs you guys can think of please suggest and add tips.

i don’t mind kids,i’m cool with gardening, and walking dogs. But i don’t know how to go about like advertising

Mikey answers:

Do you like kids? Maybe you could babysit for your neighbors or something. Are you good with animals? You could walk dogs, or pet sits. Find your likes and your strengths. Do you have a green thumb? You could try taking care of peoples plants while there gone. Maybe if you decide to babysit, you could take the kids to a roller skating rink, getting them involved in something you like. :)

Ken asks…

Is there a website where i can find a summer job in uk?

i’m not english, i need to practice the language but i have no money to spend over a month in the uk.
I need to find an easy job that requires a simple spoken english.

Mikey answers:

Jobs are scarce and non existant for those who’s English is not fluent.
If you are not an EU citizen you will not be able to work in the UK without a visa anyway.
