Your Questions About Finding A Summer Job College

Joseph asks…

What job opportunities, if any, can a college undergrad find in a pharmacy?

I’m currently a sophomore and I want to work in a pharmacy over the summer but I’m not exactly sure what positions I could fill, if pharmacies even have jobs for non-professionals.

Mikey answers:

IF you are trying to go into pharmacy as a career that is an excellent idea. Contact the national chains and travel if you have to, should your situation allow it in the summer. Try CVS, Eckerd, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, etc. Also, some areas have independent affiliates with “Sav-On” etc.

its a part of our college project.

Mikey answers:

Depending in your field. If it is physic my daughter went to the hospital and got a job taking people in for x-ray. In her free time she helped others When she graduated she moved up fast because they knew she was a good worker & didn’t mind starting at the bottom.

Steven asks…

Would you recommend fishing for a summer job?

Im 18, willing to work hard, im strong, and i can pull through long hard hours in the worst conditions. I’ve already been out at sea so I have the general idea of how the process works.

Im just wondering if anybody can give me some advice on how to find a job in commerical fishing for summers in New Bedford massachuates. I live in new jerseyand Im goin up to college in boston so my idea is to rack up some cash in the summer to pay up for tuition.

I did it for a few days in jersey but thats only becasue i knew people that worked there, but how would I get hold of a job in the ports up in mass. And starting out what would I make on avarage. I know with fishing its hit or miss and it depends on the catch, but as a green horn how much would my cut be?

I would greatly appreciate it you could get back to me!!
Thanks a lot!!!

Mikey answers:

I recommend you get a deckhand job on a fishing charter boat, they Always need help, you will get regular pay, and the tips are usually pretty good, they pay so much a day depending on experience !!!

Betty asks…

How bad is it to be in college, but not working?

I’m 19, in college……..but I’ve never actually had a job. How bad is this? I go to school full time (including class in the summer). I have good grades, and I’m transferring to university (from community college) soon. Is this going to make it impossible for me to find a job after college? I’m an only child, and I’ll admit I’m probably spoiled.

Is college worthless? I’m worried about this, but I take a full schedule in the spring/fall and dont want my grades to slip.

Mikey answers:

College is not worthless.

By many calculations, a college education is worth about 1 million dollars in lifetime earnings over a high school education.

Make a list of all of the jobs that you would like to do (be realistic). Highlight the ones that require a college education.
